Well its been the start of season 9. In the hands of lesser actor than Capaldi this episode would not have worked. Some proper moments of Glaswegian hospitality between the two Glasgow born actors. The problem comes that there is little tension because we know that what appeared to happen hasn't.

You know what I want, for the ending to be exactly what it looked like and the rest of the season to be the fallout of that choice. That's not going to happen, but that's what I want

You know, if it turns out that that Missy is retconned into being an imposter who is only pretending to be who she most certainly is not, then I'll consider getting back into the show, as it means that the writing has gotten good enough for the writers to realize it was a terrible idea.

Until then I'll remain on the sideline watching the forums for any sign of a reversal of the downward spiral of quality the past 4 or 5 series have had.

I'm now watching Doctor Who just to see how bad it gets. It's getting pretty bad, and not even funny bad. Characters randomly have super powers or are completely powerless depending on what the script calls for. The writing has gotten so lazy that what used to be at least somewhat explained with technobable isn't even hand waved away anymore.
We all know they wont kill off Clara or 'Missy'; They need three episodes a piece of everyone crying about it before a character can be killed or written off the show in a way that would be easily circumvented if the script didn't call for it to not be that way. I still don't get why The Doctor went to visit Davroth anyway.

Edit: On a brighter note BBC America is showing reruns of Tom Baker's Doctor! I know the first one is tomorrow at 9 am American Central Time, not sure if it's every morning or just Sunday mornings, but I'm looking forward to that.

Handmines? No, that's more stupid than the biplane with laser thing. Also, there are black people there? Huh...given that the war was between white people who were nazis and other white people who were also nazis...seems odd.

Everything between the Dr finding out the kids name and seeing him again as an adult was pointless filler.

Can we get rid of Missy already?

Heh, yeah. That would be an interesting twist. Why they even bother pretending...meh.

This. I mean just this and nothing else. Not only was the episode horribly paced, but the writing was all over the shop. So not only did the Doctor inadvertently fill Davros with vengeance, but the Moffat also seem to think that the viewers would believe the Doctor would 'exterminate' him. Moffat's off his leash, the BBC need to get a new show runner in so that he can stop turning it into Sherlock #2. Also who starts a season with a cliffhanger?

The best moments were with the Doctor himself, especially his "intro" in the middle of the episode... I do kinda wished they showed both parts back-to-back, since the last quarter of the episode left me "blue-balled" of sorts...

Other than that, how many episodes would it take to equal the sum total of episodes that are only good just because of Capaldi?

I actually liked it. Like a lot.

The handmines were legit creepy in a simple way, the opening twist was huge, I don;t give a toss that Missys resurrection was handwaved as I'd rather have that than some incredibly contrived, bullshitty, reason and it meant more Missy.

Skaro, throwbacks to old who, villains being villainous (killing people to prove you haven;t "turned good") and the frenemy relationship between The Doctor and Master returning.

Oh oh oh, and the snake dude was quite a cool henchman, and, of course, the entrance. What an entrance. John Cena would be jelly.

So yeah, fuck it, I enjoyed it. Sue me.

No, what will happen is an infinite time loop. The Doctor will have hardened Davros, possibly crippling him, and introduced him, in a roundabout way, to every mannerism that the daleks now possess, including a need to EXTERMINATE. The Doctor created the daleks.

Well, IMO, that was a solid opener.

I guess it's indicative of a pro and con of Doctor Who, in that the content is great, provided you suspend your disbelief enough to appreciate it, e.g.

-Con: The Master is still alive, is now a woman, is a murdering psychopath that gets off scott free.

-Pro: Missy is awesome.

-Con: Davros is still alive after the events of the Medusa Cascade with no explanation.

-Pro: Davros is still awesome.

-Con: Daleks, the Doctor, "exterminate," Skaro, we've seen a lot of this before.

-Pro: That stuff is still awesome.

So, yeah. Enjoyable, but I do admit it has a lot of "just because" in there as well.

It did feel as though none of the last part actually happened - the last time a Tardis blew up the universe ended after all, and without it how the hell would the Doctor go back in time to kill Davros-kid?

However, after the episode there was an iPlayer link to a radio interview, in which Jenna Coleman said that she had quit Doctor Who and Clara's time is running out.

I loved Missy and Capaldi's interactions in this episode. Missy is awesome, but I might think that because the actress also played Sue in Green Wing who had a similar personality and was really entertaining.

Bit of a 50/50 episode for me - characters were good but the "ending" certainly feels like it didn't actually happen so the cliffhanger is a bit flat.

There was a lot of fluff in this one, especially the middle. But the prologue and stuff with Davros was fantastic, and I don't care what anyone says, I'm still sold on Michelle Gomez as 'Missy'. To my mind, the Master needs to work as a foil to the Doctor, and her incarnation does that so well against Peter Capaldi's Doctor, even if they didn't have that much interaction in this episode.

On the downside, cliffhanger's kind of ruined by how obvious it is that there's going to be a save. I hope they at least explain how he made it to kid-Davros if the TARDIS has been destroyed.

From what I heard the original Rani wanted to return one last time but unfortunately she passed away before the opportunity arose.
It would have been nice to see her return then regenerate into a new Rani for the new who.

That said, I do like Missy.
A lot.

Perhaps we'll see the Rani again one day.
It could result in some fun banter when two malevolent genius time ladies begin getting possessive over the Doctor.
"He's MY nemesis!"
"He's MY friend!"
Deathrays everywhere.
