Dr Who is about being fun and quirky. Its really designed to be cheesy.

Okay there are some brilliant serious moments that can be very emotional but its usually not taking itself serious and neither should the fans!

Top 10 Doctor Who stories as voted for in the Doctor Who Magazine:

1. The Caves of Androzani (1984 - Peter Davison)
2. Blink (2007 - David Tennant)
3. Genesis of the Daleks (1975 - Tom Baker)
4. The Talons of Weng-Chiang (1977 - Tom Baker)
5. The Empty Child (2005 - Christopher Eccleston)
6. Human Nature (2007 - David Tennant)
7. Pyramids of Mars (1975 - Tom Baker)
8. City of Death (1979 - Tom Baker)
9. The Robots of Death (1977 - Tom Baker)
10. Bad Wolf (2005 - Christopher Eccleston)

I'll agree with all but number 10, which was pants.
I cant believe that they don't have "The girls in the fireplace" or "Love and Monsters". Both are excellent. However, I am glad they had Blink. It really adds a creepy side to those stone angel statues.

Girl in the Fireplace gets a lot of hate because it's basically a romance story up against the tiresome "Rose" issue.
"Love and Monsters", I really didn't like. It's basically a continuity nod built around a children's design contest, that even the winner didn't like. And there's more than a hint of Gary Stu in Elton Pope.

So you are saying that the Girls in the Fireplace was unpopular because people were jealous on the behalf of Rose? LOL, that's not a good reason to not like an episode :)

Guess I'm the only person to like "Love and Monsters"... Oh well.

I never watch the old ones but love the new ones, especially Tennant.
Personally i watch it through the comical parts and adore the scary/dramatic parts, not to say they are "scary" per say.
Definatly recommend watching it more, Moffat taking over will spice things up.

A lot of Tom Baker on that list. Go figure!

Apart from Blink (which was insanely good, but barely a Dr Who episode) you could replace all of those on the list with the Key of Time episodes. Although I'm fond of Genesis of the Daleks. Good ol' Davros...

I am a massive fan of Sci-Fi and all kinds of Sci-Fi.

Own all of Stargate SG1 and Atlantis(it was ok, not as good as SG1), all of Farscape, most of Battlestar Galatica, am going to buy all of the original Star Trek(Shatner was great in the fluro shirt), and a few other Sci-Fi series.

However, I really really want to like Dr Who but I just cant get into it. Please someone tell me why this show is good, and that I should keep watching because I will like it.
Wow, I always loved the TARDIS for being able to access all times and all places just by typing in the right number. I dunno, that just sounds like is beats Stargate to me. The Doctor and his handful of companions are like an entire crew on their own, to me, you don't need an entire starship staffed with unique individuals when you have a slightly metamorphic main character who meets unique and varied people wherever he goes.

Some of the exceedingly soft science grinds against any logic (particularly in Father's Day) but even the pseudo-science shines at times.

This show just has so much action, very relatable characters and some bad guys getting pwned, which makes it my favorite sci-fi.

6-8 are my favorites. They don't have any Pertwee which is a shame, but then there's only two old series Doctors there (one of them the longest-running Doctor and the other a recent guest star on the show) so I guess it's not really a surprise.

I never liked Christopher Eccleston, but then he does look rather like Peter Molyneux:

I think that a lot of Dr Who is really good for kids and adults alike, plus with almost everything resolved in one episode you can pick and choose between episodes whenever you like.

Also throughout episodes there are changes in genre with a base theme. You get your military with the Sontarans and your murder mystery laughs with Agatha Christie and the Vespiforms :p

Who likes Matt Smith as the new Doctor?
I like his chemistry with the new companion. I have great hopes for the new series.
(I live in the US so I'm only like four episodes in with the 11th Doctor, probably far behind many of you.)
