Sorry guys, no this is not meant to be an epic thread about DA2's characters, or sexual orientation, or fighting systems, today's topic is geography! Yay how boring! (This could end rather quickly)

Anyways, what I have always wondered is, what are all the locations' real-life counterparts? So far, I know that:
Ferelden - England
Orlais - France
Antiva - Spain
I had another but I can't think of it now, so my question is actually, what would Kirkwall's equivalent be? And how about Orzammar? Par Vollen?

Feel free to state your speculations! Or discuss any geography in the DA universe =)

Antiva is actually more like Italy with Spanish accents. The Free Marches would I think be Scotland. The Tevinter Empirium is the Byzantine Empire. That's all I know of.

Well Kirkwall is part of the Free Marches and this region is being described in the codex as:

The Free Marches are not a kingdom, nor even a nation in the most basic sense. People from that region dislike even being lumped together as "Marchers." Rather, they are a collection of independent city-states united only when it suits them; in this respect, they resemble the Bannorn before the arrival of King Calenhad. Because of this, the Free Marches have no capital, and what passes for a central government exists only sporadically, a sort of Landsmeet that convenes only during times of crisis.
--From Codex entry: The Free Marches

So the Free Marches is a collection of independent city-states, that sounds a lot like the US.

Also Anderfels is described as a land of shocking extremes, that consists mostly of steppes and devoid of life, so my guess would be that it's a counter-part of Siberia.

Really curios to see if others can come up with better answers for this two regions or even other regions.

Byzantine empire sounds about right, periodically and historically!

Anyone have any idea where is Rivain, where Isabela is from? Could it be India (gypsy pirate?) really can't put my finger on it..she wears a lot of gold too.

Anderfells could be Australia; Deserts, Bush, Swamps, Rainforests, Tropical Islands, Mountain ranges, snow fields... yeah we get snow. I've seen kangaroos laying in snow, it's weird.

Anderfels is more like Chernobyl back when it first happened. You seem to be forgetting the part about the codex entry where it says that there are areas where nothing can even grow anymore due to the repeated blights.
