Does anybody know roughly how long dragon age 2 is going to be? I was quite happy with the length of Dragon Age 1 so I would like 2 to be just as long.

In terms of how long it will take for a playthrough, I do not know. But the story is supposed to span over roughly ten years.

Let us hope that the game doesn't take 10 years lol. The first was really long though, I think it took me about 22 hours to beat it.

Like the guy above said, in-game its spanned over 10 years.

I'm guessing each year is 5-10 hours of gameplay.

Which means the final game might be around... 50-100 hours of playtime.

These are all guesses, but chances are its going to take a long time to finish.

It could do what Assassin's Creed 2 did and randomly skip several years without telling us.

I think a fair assumption is 22 hours for DA2 now. I think it could be a bit longer though. No telling how they will focus on what events over the 10 year period, and for how long.

Latest review by some magazine I can't remember says the main campaign by itself clocks in around 15 hours.

edit: The above review is by Gamestar, and here's the link to the description I read: Linky [http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/6238661].

Reviewer for PC Gamer said it was around 50 for his complete playthrough.

edit: Lookin for the PC gamer review.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/02/25/pc-gamer-uk-podcast-51-dragon-age-2-review-and-deus-ex-human-revolution-hands-on/

Podcast discusses DA2, the reviewer states it took him 50 hours and 42 minutes, and admits he left some stones unturned. Though not many, according to him.

This isn't about you, how sad is it that you said that though? "22+ hours is really long" Remember when thats what we expected from games atleast, now that is considered really long.

On topic. I took about 50 hours to do DA:O so, I have no idea.

I know I wont be picking it up day one though, I am going to do wha tI did with DA:O, wait till all the DLC is out and pick it up for £20.

Mike Laidlaw states shorter than DA but longer than ME2 his guesstimate is around 50 hours.

All I know is there is far too many cutscenes judging by that demo. I mean come one what the hell was that about? If the game lasts 40 hours more than half of that are cutscenes and dialogues. I didn't mind dialogues in DAO but that was different because the guy couldn't talk and it made the game more immersive. I have a feeling DA2 is gonna bore me to death. Do I need more reasons to cancel the pre-order? Why am I still getting this game despite all of the flaws I found in the demo?

Several things I'd like to bring up about your comment:

First: Isn't it a bit hypocritical to bring up how long it took you to beat the game? I mean according to you I'm shifting the topic towards myself by commenting on how long it took me to beat the game.

Second: I NEVER said it's about me or tried to shift the focus towards myself. I simply commented on my personal experience with the game, without experience I don't think any of us would be able to comment properly.

Finally: I rushed through the game during this playthrough and it still took me that long. When did anyone expect games to be 22+ hours? Games vary on length based on genre. No games, outside rpg's, are anywhere near that long.

WOOOOSH!

I was commenting on the fact that 10 years ago games would take ages to beat 'cos there was no saving or whatever. Now games last about 10 hours if you look everwhere and take your time (like COD).

It has nothing to do with you or your skill or how long it took you to complete it a game, it's a comment about how short games have become. It just struck me as I read your post that games really haved stopped taking days, even weeks to complete and now take a few hours.

Didn't Bioware say it would be a bit shorter than the original? Although that's still very vague as side quests and faffing about time needs to be taken into account

I'd say about the same as DA:O so over 9000! *cough* I mean over 25 hours probably

Mike Laidlaw, when specifically asked this question, said that the game length would be in between the length of Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. So unless you speed run it, it will be a 40-60 hour game.

*Ahem* Already said this ^ ;) He states around 50 hours in two interviews that I have seen :) But did comment that depending on how you play, the caveat ''Mileage will vary'', comes into effect.

Certainly shorter than DA:O - it is the way of stripped-down and refined sequels to be smaller and more focused than their predecessors. That, and DA:O was unusually long, even for a Bioware game.

From what I heard it's supposed to be in the 40-60 range, so a bit longer then the newer range of Bioware games but not as long as their old school games. Add in multiple playthroughs though and you should easily bust the 100+hr mark.
