The year is 9:31, during the prophetic and aptly named Dragon Age. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Hero of Ferelden and his companions, the archdemon of the Fifth Blight, Urthemiel, was slain at the Battle of Denerim. Many good souls were lost that day, but the people of Ferelden rejoiced, as the Blight was quelled almost as quickly as it begun. In it's wake, however, the fate of Thedas, and all of those who walk on her soil, was altered.
Alistair Theirin, rightful heir to the Ferelden throne by blood, renounced any claim of his to rule as king, and handed the crown to Queen Anora. Loghain Mac Tir was branded a traitor and executed, and the Arling of Amaranthine was gifted to the Hero of Ferelden and his fellow Grey Warden. Bhelen Aeducan was named king of Orzammar, drafting the Paragon Branka to construct an army of stone golems and radically changing the face of dwarven trade. The Circle of Magi in Ferelden managed to scarcely avoid the Right of Annulment, though is still struggling to rebuild under it's new Knight-Commander. The curse of the Werewolves in the Brecilian Forest was broken and the Dalish clan moved on, though there have been rumors of vicious cannibals tribes on the eastern coast of Ferelden, and southern Free Marches. And Lothering, once a humble wheat village, now lays in utter ruin.
Present day: The Old Gods, ancient beings who cry out in their eternal prisons, beckoning the twisted creatures known as the Darkspawn, pleading with them to free them from their slumber...
But the call of the Old Gods is changing. It is weaker, fading with each slain archdemon, being trumped by something that is terribly different than what the Darkspawn have been hearing. It is horrific to some, driving droves of Darkspawn to fight amongst one another in the Deep Roads. But to a few of the tainted creatures, it is awesome in it's power, pulling them to it's source, and changing them in ways never thought possible.
--------
In Orzammar, the Lyrium trade has never been more successful. Thanks to Bhelen's radical modern changes to the trade industry, and the Paragon Branka's fleet of golems, lyrium is able to be mined in record amounts, giving the dwarves unprecedented wealth, and an ever increasing sense of
self-righteousness.
While Queen Anora has allowed the increased dispersal of lyrium, disturbing reports have been coming to her attention from all over Ferelden. Reports of vicious Templar attacks on innocent civilians, once waved off as Chasind rumors, have now been proven as all too true. And to make matters worse, there have been no messages sent or received from the Circle of Magi in Ferelden for months.
The Hero of Ferelden has made a startling discovery in Kal-Hirol, one that leads her to form a very disturbing alliance. Refugees from the Blighted country are pouring into the Free Marches to
the north in record numbers, forcing cities to close their gates and scrutinize every visitor.
