Sorry if this has been done before but I'm getting this game tomorrow and on my first playthrough I'd like to play as a rogue.

I would like to have a rogue which relies on ranged combat but I'm not sure about how it will complement the rest of my party. I will have one tank, one healer, one AoE mage and (maybe) a ranged rogue.

Will using a ranger rogue complement these rest of the party or shall I create a rogue that uses dual weapons?

Again sorry if this has been done and thanks in advance

Your best bet is to use Alistair as a tank and use your dual wielding rogue to back-stab the crap out of everything.

Cheers
In the end it's up to you, the problem with bow users is that alot of the rogue specific skills compliment melee combat over ranged.

I guess that I should have 2 melee characters to protect the mages. Is Morrigan useful as a healer or a AoE mage?

When stating your party layout, is the ranged rogue you? If not then you have one too many.
My brother made a dual weilding Rouge, worked out quite well for him.

He used a Healer and two Warriors, with one of them using Sword and shield while the other was Shale. His Party seemed to work just fine, all I can suggest is doing Whatever you want and build the party around you, instead of trying to make your character based on the party.

Bow users tend to be a bit underpowered, but if you install the ranged fix (you'll have to google it, I don't have the url on hand) they become pretty powerful. But even without the fix they can be pretty good.

It's best to get the Bard and Ranger specs, since the other two are more focused on melee combat. Bard gives you some great abilities, and Ranger can provide a decent extra meatshield. By supporting your party with these things you make up for not being the best DPS machine yourself.

Get Alistair or Shale for a tank (I prefer Alistair but they're both good), Wynne for healing (and other spellcasting when you can spare the mana), and a third companion of your choice (Morrigan would be best for power, but anyone can fit in this slot).

Just focus on the Archery lines in stead of the Rogue lines. You may want to pick up some defensive skills and Lethality because they do work with bows (and Dirty Fighting is very useful for distracting enemies that get past your tank).

I agree with Ailstar as a tank but if I would suggest mage,if you can master the three cone spells you can take down entire groups of normal,non-mass emenies without them even moving.

Also, pick Female than you can sleep with Alistar =D
or you can get a mod(like I have) to remove the gender prefrence of Alistar!

I'm getting the game tomorrow so my character will be a dual weild rogue. I'll be using a rogue, a warrior and two mages to keep my options open.

Morrigan joins early enough to build her however you want. I personally prefer to use her for combat control and AoE, but you can just give her healing and buff spells and she'll do just as well as a defensive character. It's just that most people prefer to use Wynne in that role because she starts out that way.

I've decided to get a melee rogue, but thanks for the info

Cool. Melee Rogues are easy peasy. Just fast track to the Momentum skill, make sure you've got a Tank keeping the bad guys off your back, and watch them fall.

Mage (you) + Morrigan + Wyne + Tank = 3x Cone of Cold and Aoe, dead mobs.
Good Idea but i'm playing as a rogue. I might play mage on my 2nd playthrough, I've heard its quite difficult though.

Personally I played the shit out of this game and my favorite is to tank with a big ass sword and if you want to play as an archer your can just play as a party member. Besides its boring. except shattering blows or whatever its called.

My party is usually is Zev as the archer, and Morrigan as a Healer attacker (she is so overpowered) and the forth party member is...... well actually I swap the last party member and sometimes don't take one.... kinda don't need them.... infact I don't need any partymembers, I have Morrigan heal so I don't have to worry about healing.... I'm not just saying that they all died on the final boss fight and I had to fight that F^.^ing thing by myself.

Here's mine:

Shale as a tank obviously
Wynn as a healer/reviver/buffer
Morrigan as a backup healer and attacking mage
Me as a dual rogue to backstab all the guys on Shale

I'm playing on hard and it's been a cakewalk so far. I started as a warrior on hard but there's no point as you get loads of them and I didn't have Wynn so I found the game really hard. So I restarted wif ma rogue.

I usually go for a warrior becuase i love tanking and i just cant play without my crusade-esque character armor: A Templar helm and Wade's Superior Dragon Armor
