With the next installment of the DA franchise soon to arrive, there will be the much-hyped feature of returning chaacters. Poeple like Morrigan and Varrik have already been seen in the trailers, but it stands to reason that we may get more characters from past games.

So I would like to know which people you personally are most excited to see coming back, assuming that all of them are potentially going to be coming back in some way.

Well, it looks like I'm going to have to buy the GOTY Dragon Age: Origins on Steam before I play this. I would hate to walk into completely ignorant of everything that's going on.

Sort of like I did with Dragon Age 2.

I'm really excited for the game though.

Well, it'll be nice to see Varric and Morrigan again.

Leliana turned up at the end of DA2 (and during), so presumably she'll be in there in some capacity as well.

I'd also like to see Sten, Merrill and Avaline. They were favourites of mine.

Everyone!

I have a feeling Wynne won't turn up after the events of Asunder....

I love Isabella, Meril, Morrigan, Leliana...dem voices. And of course Flemeth has to turn up, she...has...to!

The only confirmed one I have seen that I am happy about is Varric. Morrigan isn't a character I dislike, but nor am I that particularly bothered by her being there.

I suspect they will do the typical Bioware cameo, which I am definitely not looking forward to. Where because a character has the possibility of dying they only make a brief cut-scene or side-quest before they disappear again. They have done it with both Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2 as well as 3, so I have no reason to suspect they won't do it yet again.

I wonder if what they will do with Sten if he comes back. They changed the appearance of the Qunari, so I guess that means he will have horns if he does. Then again, Merrill and Isabela changed from Origins to DA2, so it wouldn't be that surprising. Plus I really like the newer design of the Qunari.

That little autistic dwarf kid that says "En-chant-ment?"

Seriously though I'm kind of at a loss for what to say here, I didn't play DA2 but most of DA:O's characters really only work in their own setting and dragging them out of it seems a bit hackneyed. I mean I loved seeing a lot of returning faces in Baldur's Gate 2 but it did feel a little strange that half the cast of joinable characters would find themselves in Athkatla for one reason or another.

Sadly none of them.

We aren't going to be able to import saves and are instead getting a choices generator similar to Genesis for Mass Effect.

I have a feeling that the choices are going to be very few and will push us to Bioware canon for the story, which unlike with Mass Effect they've strongly established in the spin-off media. Plus they've been quite bullish about how Leliana is still alive even if you cut her head off in the first game.

Personally I'm treating each game as standalone, stories set in similar universes but which events have happened differently.

He'll look as he did in the first game. He's quite prominent in the spin-off media http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Sten.

Hornless Qunari are genetic abnormalities.

I believe that they added to the lore to explain Sten's lack of horns post-redesign. Something about some Qunari being born without horns and this being a sign of greatness in Qunari society.

OT: Sten, Oghren and Anders if he's got rid of that spirit and returned to his rightful self.

My God did his character change from the expansion into DA II grate my nerves. I wanted to punch him so many times... and not because I hated him. But because I loved him in the Awakening. But his character in DA II... ugh.

On topic: when is the game comming out? I did read a bit about it... but after the DAII and ME3 debacle... I just stopped following BioWare for a bit. Maybe DAIII will turn me around? :)

More on topic: I'd like to see Wynee (correct spelling?) make a return. I did like that motherly character of hers. :)

To be honest I wish that was the way they would treat it as well. I like the concept of carrying on a story, but it requires far much more variety in paths than they are willing to commit to, so I'd rather they kept the games as separate as possible, just set in the same universe.

A lot of people want to see the Warden and Hawke in this game, despite them not being the playable character, but I really do not. I'd much rather the games be considered their own self contained story than have lot's of cameo's and references to the other games just because.

Aha, thank you. Although I imagine he will still look less like a giant human than in Origins.

I think the largest problem with Anders was how jarring the change was. He was always anti-Templar, but in DA2 I wouldn't have been surprised if talking about how much he hated them was his idea of pillow talk.

It is out around this time next year, no exact release date to my knowledge.

Happy to see Varric returning. I'd enjoy seeing Alistair, but like Aveline I kind of feel like his original game completed his arc, so shoehorning him in would be weird. Lukewarm about Morrigan and Leliana. Voice acting is fine for both, but both characters could be grating in their own way.

On a less serious note, finding out about Morrigan and what her plans were in Witch Hunt in the first game would be great. I haven't played the sequel so I don't know if more about that was revealed there.

Eh, I know they won't but maybe we can start afresh eh Bioware? Same universe with a new lot of characters? Really DA2 was a bit of a mess and repeatedly pulling out random old characters mid game like a rabbit out of a hat gets old fast.

I did like DA2 (I was one of those lunatics who thought the ending was good) I didn't notice the repeating dungeons until someone pointed them out to me and the combat was one step away from good until they added ridiculous numbers of people spawning in and making them all tanky as fuck.

You insult someone in DA2 and all their mates come out of the ether and attack you.

I'm super happy they're kicking out Shep and crew for the new Mass Effect let's say. I guess they will have to make a few references to the old games just to keep the Bioware forums from imploding but a new slate is great.

I don't mind seeing old characters occasionally, but I too want to see a whole new cast for DA3. Fereldan/Orlais are supposed to be part of a big, expansive world. There can be more than the same crew of 15 people implicated in its destiny.

Well, given that the context for this involves making the worst possible choice in exchange for what is perhaps the least useful Prestige Class in the game, I'd say Leliana's Survival ought to be canonical. There were other at least marginally grey choices in the game where I could see the canon going either way, notably the outcome of the Redcliffe quest and the Desire Demon. There was an objectively good outcome possible but, if I'm not mistaken, it required the player be a Mage.

Honestly, I'm not excited about Inquisition at all. I loved Origins and even gave DA2 more than one playthrough, but for all the information about Inquisition all I can give is a big eeehhhhh.

Varic's probably at the top of my list, and I'm glad he's back as a party member. There's also Sandal (I love the theories that he's actually a mage, somehow), maybe a little Alistair, Sten (in his new role from the comics), Flemeth, maybe Cole from Asunder. Not sure if Empress Celene counts, as she doesn't have on screen moments, but everything we've heard about her makes me curious. Oh! And Magister Maevaris Tilani.

I have zero interest in Morrigan. I never really got over her insane rejection of any positive act, no matter how much the people's approval helps (that, and I'm a goody two-shoes, so it gets tiring. Sten's annoyance only came up when you acted illogically). I know she's coming back for more than a cameo, but I really hope I can limit contact a bit.

Morrigan mainly because I want to see if they tackle the whole thing with the Witch Hunt DLC and my warden romancing her and going with her through the portal.

Another character I'm looking forward to playing with (one that can be a party member unfortunately Morrigan is not one of them) is Varric. I really liked his personality and he was a loyal friend.
