Dragon Age Origins: Bow differences

I have looked it up several times and am still confused. For clarity, I am a high dex rogue, and am wondering whether I can do higher damage with a shortbow or longbow (crossbows are for pussies). If anyone could give me the simplified version of all the formulas and numbers that confuse my non-WoW playing mind, I would appreciate it.

Intuitively I'd say a longbow, but I dunno about DPS or anything like that.

I never really thought about it, but from experience I would say both do pretty good damage, long bows just have more range. That's just from my experience, I could be wrong.
