Well I've noticed there's been some buzz around Dragon Age: Origins. It was recently delayed amongst denial from Bioware but it was eventually confirmed and EA and Bioware have announced that every edition of the game will come with free DLC and in-game armour. However apart from that I haven't seen much discussion on the forums so here we are.

What does the Escapist think about the game? Are we excited about it? Personally I can't wait for it. I've been spending the last few hours looking at videos and before I did, since I hadn't been following it closely, I thought the gameplay would be third/first person very much like Oblivion however it seems to adopt the Baldur's Gate/Knights of the Old Republic system of tactical pause and play gameplay. Which isn't all too surprising now that I think about it since it is a Bioware game. Looking through comments on Youtube I saw much bashing of the system saying it looked boring and stupid but then again I am talking about Youtube. I really liked the system in Baldur's Gate and it looks even better in this. So let's get some discussion going. What does everyone else think?

i think it sounds good, nay great potentially. being a big fan of bioware and most deep western rpg type things, i can't really imagine this going wrong.

bioware aren't far off a bethesda or valve style developer, where it would be hard to imagine them fucking up in any big way.

I have said this before on the forums I believe, I am a huge fan of Bioware and all of their work. I have known about this game for some time now, and I still plan on buying it and enjoying it.

Can't wait for DA:O

I was going to buy it...but then I checked how much money I was going to send this Christmas, just on games, and had to cut some off my list.

I'll buy it when the price drops next year, it looks like a good game.

Personally the more I read and watch the more I want it. I'm loving how the magic works in the game with the combinations you can do, and how it has an effect on the environment. Also area of effect spells can damage your party which is a nice touch... But that could be cancelled out by defence buffs I suppose. So what character is everyone thinking of playing? Human, elf, dwarf? Warrior, rogue or mage? Commoner or high born? Dwarves can't be mages either due to their high magic resistance which is just win that Bioware are making stuff make sense.

I'm personally thinking high-born elf mage :p

I honestly know very little about the game, aside from the fact that it's done by Bioware. And frankly, that is all I need to know.

Very excited about it. Hours upon hours of storytelling and quests, with modding tools as well? Count me in.

It looks like it has a brilliant story too and just from watching videos, the atmosphere of the game feels fantastic. Kinda reminds me of epic fantasy novels such as the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin

I've never seen BioWare produce a clunker, and the fact that they are delaying it actually gives me confidence in the product, knowing that they'd rather delay that ship on time and unfinished and follow up with a bunch of patches. But then, I'm a shameless BioWare fangirl.

It certainly looks fun, but the trailers have a God of War-esque focus on ludicrous violence that doesn't speak well for the roleplaying elements. So I'm afraid there will be a little too much action for a true RPG. But I'll certainly try it out, and probably play it either way.

DA is only upcoming game I'm really having high hopes for. Hope they won't be dashed to horrificly.

The combat shown sofar looks a bit crude, but the c&c could be great.
