Dragon Age Writer: Same-Sex Romance is Here to Stay
If you're that worried about what a player does with his pretend free time in a videogame, maybe you should start thinking about better ways to occupy your own free time in the real world.

Dragon Age 2 comes out on March 8 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Well said that man im a guy and at first I was a bit suprised when I played as female warrior (if im staring at something for 20 odd hrs it better be good looking and my girl friend wont let me stare at her for that long) and ended up in a relationship Leliana without even really trying then I played as a male warrior and slept with Zeveran and then morrigan and then leliana simply just cos I could and also if i'm brutally honset it was wrote so bloody well.

BioWare is NOT caving into pressure and scaling back their more controversial bits?

hm...how about some um more controversy in the romance scenes for Mass Effect 3 hmmm? :p

Is it wrong and sexist that the first thing that popped into my head was "Yay more lesbian relationships!"?
I was thinking "...they gonna add toys...for the females?" lol...it's getting late I need to sleep

These aren't romances or sex scenes. It's just facile titilation and as such Bioware deserve scorn because they aren't pushing boundaries or even storytelling, they are pursuing a nasty stereotype of nerdy boys in their bedrooms. Bioware need to get back to decent game design and not waste everyone's energy with this utter insulting nonsense.
Sounds like you're verifying that stereotype since you sounds like you were looking for nudity/porn rather than anything else, sex is an option they chucked in, it's not really something I consider to be a huge feature, though some of the dialogue the ensues is worth while. (course you'll disagree cause you're a precious needle in a haystack, aren't you?)

Now that ME has run for two games already, it's probably too late to change Shephard to be gay. It would ruin everything that has already been established in the character.

They can do S/S romances in another game series, another time.

So why oh why cant Bioware do this in Mass Effect. Fantasy setting sure you can have same sex relationships but you SciFi setting game, no you can have it D: Why bioware, why doesn't Mass Effect get no same sex love but you can throw aliens at us to love?
Likely because the characters in Mass Effects have much more polish than characters in their other games. Mass Effect characters are often based on a much stronger fundemental integrity, and so is Shephard, and the more ways you give players to ruin that integrity.

Note that I'm not saying that being gay means you lack "Integrity". I'm talking about the fact that Shephard as gay isn't how the developers imagined the character. Even though the devs give you alot of customization options with Shephard, they still also made the character rock-solid in several ways, even enough so the male/female version of Shephard is very similar.

Now that ME has run for two games already, it's probably too late to change Shephard to be gay. It would ruin everything that has already been established in the character.

A few things I want to ask you, and I apologise if they have already been asked, are; How would Shepard going for males in stead of females (Male Shepard option), or females instead of males (Female Shepard option) in any way make Shepard less rock-solid?

As well, how would the option of having Shepard attracted to the same gender, in any way change his character?

As I see it, it is a small factor that if changed (Which most people would choose not to) would not alter his/her character too much.

A lot of people are saying "I don't mind as long as it stays optional." But if you ask me, what if it wasn't? What if a gay romance /was/ part of the story? To me, it's the same difference. If you don't like it, nobody's forcing you to play.

I will admit that i, in the time of writing my last post, had totally forgotten about the Kelly-romance, which is kinda embarrasing considered it wasn't that long ago that i played Mass Effect 2 through.

Other than that though, the "real" romance options in the game so far has been established as heterosexual (Shephards relationship with Kelly is also heterosexual if you play the male version).

We'll just have to see what they have cooking for ME3, but i wouldn't hold my breath for any S/S love for the male Shephards there. Like i said, i forgot about Kelly last time, but even in the real world, girl-on-girl action is looked upon with less hostility in the general public. In general, girls don't mind getting (somewhat) physical with each-other, even if they are heterosexual. For all we know, the Kelly-Shephard relationship with a female Shephard could just as well be a kind of sister-like (or just really close) relationship with a bit of booze thrown in (I've seen heterosexual girls "go nuts" on each other in real life so you'd almost think they were lesbians). At least for the male Shephard, two games so far he has clearly demonstrated that he is into girls.

Once you establish something in a storyline, it gets very hard to break, which is what i meant when i referred to "rock solid". I don't think it would sit well with many people, even people who have nothing against homosexuals, if he did a 180 in ME3 and went hitting on Jacob or something. Picture for a minute the fanboy rage if Anakin Skywalker turned out to be homo or bi-sexual in Episode 3 :)

YAY Bioware! They also slipped in some nice group sex in DA:O if you fancy that sort of thing.
What? Where?

OT: nice to see bioware's willing to face a little bit of controversy here and there.
With Isabela and Alistair/Liliana/Zevran. In fact, you can even have a foursome with Liliana and Zevran depending on the affection of both for you. Alistair draws the line at three, I guess.
