In what I would call a stunning display of "Fuck You" to the players who jumped onto the series with Dragon Quest 8, Squeenix has decided to turn what I assumed would be the last Single Player RPG franchise multiplayer and has brought all of the stupid shit that normally accompanies a multiplayer mode with it.
According to 1Up's Jeremy Parish, the game has effectively removed any sort of character development from the game. Replacing it with a One Player Party that will either be filled with random Mercenaries hired at taverns or other players via the DS's WiFi. As well the game appears to be, from what I read in previews, mostly composed of small little sidequests with a barely notable overall narrative. Basically a throw back to the grind tastic, plotless days of Dragon Quest III and Dragon Quest IV.
Seriously, what the hell Square? I thought we were beyond this... What happened to the storytelling and character development that factored so heavily in Dragon Quests 5 - 8?
This is why I hate Multiplayer, it's an excuse for developers to get lazy.
