I personally enjoy DragonForce because they there are many layers of melody, harmony, and rhythm parts in their songs. Second in today's music industry when writing new material 90% of bands copy and paste what's popular. DragonForce on the other hand marches to the beat of their own drum, there's no other band like them.

Personally I liked them because they are fast, technical, and have lots of harmony. Unfortunately that 90% of the music industry also encompasses their bassist and drummer. One of my most loathed things in any band is a drummer that reuses beats, and dragonforce is no exception there. Sure he can play fast and semi-technical stuff- argh who am I kidding? He's fuckin' TERRIBLE. And not just their newest drummer, all of them. Their bassist you can't hear unless they're live, and they suck live. Imagine that.

Not to say that they're bad or anything. They used to be one of my favorite bands of all time, and they have their own unique sound going on. They just are weighed down by a few things. Eventually I discovered other bands I like more and grew higher standards.

In conclusion, I do like them. But... Misunderstood may be an understatement in this circumstance. There's never a universally liked band, and Dragonforce happens to be one of the bands who get the most flak. People insult them, deny they have any ounce of talent, say they speed up their studio recordings, and make other harsh statements based on whatever their opinion may be. If you know anything about the band, you should know this isn't true.
Alas, since you started a Dragonforce thread, there's going to be rampant sniping towards them. And it already runs through every page....... >.<

Easily one of the most misunderstood bands ever. People generally right them off for always sounding the same in all they're songs or for their lyrics. But it seems to me no one pays any attention to their greatest qualities.

And don't even try the "All their songs sound the same" argument here. If that's what you think listen to Heartbreak Armageddon, then My Spirit Will Go On, then Dawn Over a New World.

Also try to keep the hate to a minimum. I'm not trying to blast you for not liking them but simply being the one to step forward and say I like DragonForce.

Take away Herman Li's effect pedals, and he's not worth a mummer's fart. Playing fast doesn't make you a guitar master.

Dragonforce irk me because they're obviously relatively talented musicians who make the most immature music ever.
If you want a real decent band, then look up Outworld, a bit of an acquired taste but what the hey.

I love Dragonforce but take them with a pinch of salt, I know they're cheesey and can't actually play their instruments, but i just love how over the top they are. Childish epically pointless lyrics are fun, not all songs have to move you to tears.

They substitute good music for speed. It's the equivalent of rave music. plus they're dicks offstage too.

when I saw em live I thought they were pretty good, that was abou 2 years ago too, so I assume they would be even better live now.

They have a few enjoyable songs. But it is not my favorite progressive metal band, and by far not my favorite band.
With regards to studio editing, it does take away something from the experience knowing it's fake, but that doesn't make the music itself sound any worse.

They copy paste their OWN music. No, they don't sound the same, but they are very, you know, "SIMILAR" at least in the same progression, same harmonies, similar intros, etc, etc, etc.

And it seems you have never listened to any other power metal band, in which case I recommend for you Rhapsody and Nightwish just to get you started.

If you like Dragonforce, you'll probably love them. Dragonforce isn't bad, just if it ever starts getting tedious to you, try these guys.

Can I add Kamelot and Within Temptation to the list?
Also aren't they called Rhapsody of Fire these days?

Anyway, I generally dislike them for being fake and impossible to listen to. Although I find most power metal bands of that ilk pretty unpleasant, and nowhere near as relevant as, say Pantera or Down.

I have to admit I'm not a big DragonForce fan but they are incredibly talented. I saw them at Download 2007 and I was just amazed they were able to pull off their lightning speed solos note-for-note perfectly on the stage. Plus they were quite animated.

They play too fast with no style or substance.
The vocalist annoys me.

If you think they suck out of studio your probably watching old videos of live performances. They were always drunk at their older performances. Watch anything after the release of Ultra Beatdown, they've really cleaned up their act.

I'm not exactly certain when that came out but this is a good example of what I'm on about:

Dream Theater is way better, at least they can play their music.

Exactly. DT Plays with 100 times the passion that DF plays with and JP is 10 times the guitarist that Li AND Totman are. Not to mention Portnoy can actually play his drum beats and Labrie can keep his pitch the same live as he can on the albums. Dream Theater FTW!

How the hell could you say that without comparing John Myung to whoever the hell DF's bassist is, AND Dream Theater's keyboardist knocks whoever the hell that other guy is out of the water! I said hell too much in that sentence, you'll have to excuse me.....

My Mistake. I figured I didnt need to explain that since everyone should know Myung is better than the no-name DF bassist and Jordan Rudess is on the Keyboardist Mount Rushmore with Kieth Emerson(ELP), Rick Wakeman(Yes), and Rick Wright (Pink Floyd). Didnt think they needed mentioning.

They are horrible live. And they seem to think that just throwing random guitar solos together makes for a good song. Sure he can play the guitar, but so can Kirk Hammet.

Every band has there specialty, for Dragonforce it's their lead guitar. Don't say you think they suck, you just don't like their music.

I don't like a lot of bands, but I don't think they suck. Well, I do think mainstream rap sucks because it is the definition of shit.
