Did you ever have one of those dreams, sleep dreams, where you just couldn't ever forget it but did not understand what it meant to you?

Nooope. I forget 99.98% of all my dreams by mid morning, and the ones I remember aren't interpretable above face value.

If you remember a dream, it's because it has some significance to you. Otherwise you'd forget it like 98% of the dreams you have during the night.

If I remember one, I try to write it down so it retains its significance. Not to understand the cosmos or anything, but just because it's fun.

I've decided to resurrect this thread. Not as something discussing dream interpretation but an actual Escapist dream interpretation forum. It will function like so:
One person will tell all of you a dream they have had in recent memory. This dream will be shared with the community with the hope that some community member will be able to interpret that dream in a manner that is completely unhelpful.

I will start by sharing a dream I remember recently:

You will need some background before I begin. Background information needed is as follows:
- Every year my parents' street has a "street party" which basically consists of everyone on their street barbecuing, having a few beers and talking on my parent's and my neighbor's shared driveway.
- My father is a professor at a graduate school teaching history of philosophy
- I have absolutely no idea what Charles Dickens looks like
- I do graffiti murals

Here is the dream:

I found myself walking around my parents' neighborhood only to find myself on their street where the street party was going on. Upon entering the party I noticed that none of the people there were from my street. In fact most of the people were from the institute my father works at. At the center of the party was my father in a furious graffiti/essay/philosophy battle with Charles Dickens. It was at this point that I realized that Mr. Dickens was beating my father and asked my father if he needed help. The topic of the essay was "The Philosophical Crusader". Charles Dickens was doing his graffiti essay about Jesus Christ while my father was attempting to do a mural about Fight Club. At this point I stepped in to help him and picked up a spray can. It was at this particular moment that I said aloud: "Oh shit, I've forgotten ALL OF THE PHILOSOPHERS!" Then I remembered one... Thomas Hobbes. I proceeded to use an abrasive shade of hot pink to do a mural/essay about Thomas Hobbes.

Now these 'essays' as they were called had no writing. The 'essay's thesis just had to be conveyed through your mural. It was highly nonsensical (most likely due to my brain tripping on DMT).

Anyway, I'm hoping that this will become a thread for the sharing and discussion of whatever your ridiculous and nonsensical dreams are.

Okay interpret this dream for me.

A giant yellow chicken emerged from the ground. Then, a bigger purple chicken emerged from the ground, catching the yellow chicken in it's beak. Then an entire chicken chain began to form of big various colored chicken catching the chicken above them in it's beak. Finally, a colossal red chicken emerged and caught the entire chicken tower in it's beak. It then ate the chickens and flew into a city. Old ladies then began to worship the giant chicken along with Humpty Dumpty. They then wrapped them selves in newspaper and fed themselves to the chicken. This all happened while classic Opera music was playing.

You figure that out.

the jacket was something that you subconciously feared and needed to get over. when you had the dream the second time and found it funny it means you had gotten over whatever was bothering your subconciousness. HA!

Dream threads are becoming the new religion threads.

They're everywhere.
I honestly hadn't noticed. If I'd known I wouldn't have resurrected one. But please not that I necro'd a recently deceased thread instead of starting a new one.

I will attempt to. Humpty Dumpty and the chickens represents your love of eggs, but your fear that the eggs in your fridge will somehow break leaving you without breafast. Old ladies represent your need for a maternal figure who also likes eggs however they sacrifice themselves to the chickens and Mr. Dumpty because you know that all maternal figures in your life are secretly trying to get you to stop eating eggs altogether. The opera music is the only enigma here.
It was actually I who was playing the opera music while you slept, Gerald

hmmmmm interesting the fact that you screamed the words "Oh shit, I've forgotten ALL OF THE PHILOSOPHERS!" is actually quiet something seeing as your dad teachs philosophy. thomas hobbes was the one that came up right? hmmmm what was thomas hobbes known for? also the fight your dad was having with charles is significant as well did hobbes right something about fighting? also have you seen fight club the movie? maybe the philosophical veiw points in the movie have some connection to dickens and hobbes? very interesting. also was dickens religious? why was he doing an essay on jesus?

I can remember tidbits of my dreams.

Eh.. Sometimes they are good..(Me being with a girl I like) Some not so.. (Basically an attack on a city.. Me standing in a crowded square helpless as a chopper crashes down the street, and a building in the background is bombed..)

Alright, lets see: this is one of the few dreams I remember, and I've had it at least twice a few years ago. Alright, in the dream, my dream-self, if you will, is just standing with his eyes closed. All of a sudden, there's this metal noise. I don't mean the sound metal makes, I mean the sound is metal. I can't describe it any other way than the sound being the actual thing. Anyway, my dream self pictures (and I know he's just picturing it rather than seeing it, somehow) this metal ball rolling, getting bigger and smaller as the sound gets louder/softer. That's it. That lasts for hours.

Quick note about the sound: I don't remember what it sounded like, only that at the time, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that it wasn't just a sound, but the object itself. It's so hard to explain.

Yeah, in the hospital when I had just gotten surgery. I was standing in a room, and there were these bubbles with deer heads in them and I was terrified of them. I tell you, morphine does some WILD things when you have never had it before!

Actually, dreams occur during REM (Rapid Eye Movement, when the sleeper looks like they are watching a tennis match with their eyes closed) cycles of sleep that last around 30 minutes.

As for interpreting your dream; I have no idea without actually being there.

Yeah, I should have said it seems to last hours. And yeah, it truly is indescribable. I came as close as possible, but it still doesn't seem right.

I once had a dream that I knew was a dream, but I couldn't wake up. I'd know it wasn't real and I'd 'wake up,' but it would just be waking up inside a dream. It was pretty messed up.

I never remember dreams... unless they are extremely disturbing, in which case I try to forget them...

Holy crap, the Escapist is full of Freudians!

It's a dream. Nothing more. Chances are, it has little to no reference to anything in your life.
