I don't see the appeal of Nightclubs either, loud, drunk stupid people thinking they are awesome :(

Besides, I'm alergic to Lager, and alcohol gives me stomach spasms that are quite painful :(. It's a shame too, because I love vodka and wine.

Drinking for me is a great time to have fun with friends, drinking alone to me just seems quite pathetic (No offence intended) as there's so much more that you can do with your time..
what else could you do with your time? because what ever it is, its better waith a drink :D

At the moment I've been thinking about a certain thing. This certain thing is the consumption of alcohol by yourself. When I look at my friends, most of them think that a night out at a nightclub is the best thing someone can do. I personally don't see the appeal so I usually drink by myself, probably more than I should. So my question is, do you, the people of The Escapists usually drink alone?
I normally drink with friends and family. Though I have given up on the club scene altogether, it got annoying because I always ended up getting hit on by crazy nymphomaniac women that were too old for me or gay men. I don't have a problem with homosexuals, it just gets annoying when I couldn't walk the streets without some gay guy hitting on me, a bum asking me for $/cigs, or some woman old enough to be my mother trying to recapture her youth. Hey, if that's your thing, have fun...just leave me out of it.

Usually, yeah. None of my friends are big drinkers, which is a little frustrating. So almost all the time it's me, a lone beer and a videogame.

Never, well except maybe a beer with dinner occasionally if it's been a long day or a couple once in a blue moon while I play x-box 360 on the weekend.

Oh and every Monday I drink two pints at the local pub, because I'm trying to get my name on a board for drinking 100 pints in a year there (32 atm). But I usually get a meal and chat to the other people knocking off work or the bar staff. So it's not really alone.

And if I get a bad tension headache I usually find a beer fixes it better than painkillers (relaxes the muscles).

So yes I guess technically I do drink alone sometimes, but it's always a beer and usually no more than 1-2.

Does it count as drinking on your own if you have a bunch of internet friends to say stupid drunk things to?
Outta curiosity.

I've only really been drunk once while in the company of people aye arr ell. The rest, it was just me an' the internet.
I've stopped drinking now. Decided to give it up for a while 'cause certain people didn't approve.
Not entirely sure why, though. I am kind of a miserable **** when I'm not smashed.

Drinking alone can be the most intensive experience ever. You get to know your inner monkey and it feels really good to let your mind revolve around something. Get some music you really like, for me it's Leonard Cohen or Johnny Cash, and just "dance to your own rhythm", no one there whom you feel obligated to. It's awesome.
But don't let it become a habit.

The night I drink alone is most likely the night I kill myself, but no, I'm not much of a drinker.

I ONLY drink with friends. Very rarely I might have a beer with my mother but that's about it. I don't see any reason to drink alcohol unless you're having a night out with some mates.
A thousand times this.
its a social drink!

Some people think that drinking alone is a sign of alcoholism and is bad for you, but all of the times when I got really clinically shitfaced and probably fried a part of my brain in the process was during so called social drinking.

I drink by myself all the time and it has never reached those proportions.

I have a fridge in my room specifically assigned to beer/cider/amaretto storage, and it's been empty of bottles for the past 2 months.

This thread has made me really want to fill it again...

Sipping some nice Whiskey is always nice after a particularly hard day's work. However, don't make a habit of it. Drinking should be a social thing.

Drinking on your own is fine, but getting drunk on your own isn't so good.
What's the point of drinking if you aren't going to get drunk?
The taste? If it wasn't a factor we'd only have one flavour of alcohol.

The act of just sitting down drinking something slowly, like, over half an hour or so, can be calming as well. Like daydreaming whilst staring at a tree or whatever. Or doing anything really slowly and letting your mind drift off.

As I was taught in high school (for some reason we were discussing Australian beer commercials).

One man drinking is an alcoholic
Two men drinking is a gay couple
Three men drinking is OK
Four men drinking is two gay couples

Or something like that.

I drink on my own all the time. Then again I do a lot of stuff by myself all the time. It's not that I don't have friends to go out on the piss with; it's just that every now and then I want some time in kinda quiet contemplation musing within my own brain, listening to funky tunes and slowly sipping and appreciating whatever alcohol I've purchased.

I also find drinking by myself a heck of a lot cheaper and allows me to divert money set aside for shouting mates to more important things like top shelf scotch or maybe the cab ride home...

I don't drink, but I do know people that drink alone. They enjoy it, so I don't see why you wouldn't.
