Driving Fails

Oh, lets see now.

Nearly hit someone on a roundabout as I was fiddling with my MP3.
Nearly got hit by a bus that massively cut a corner.
Nearly hit a car when I braked and skidded on a really wet road.
Reversed into a hedge at about 5mph.
Nearly hit an embankment at 50mph as I had to swerve to avoid a kamakazie pigeon.

So yeah, that's my driving history. Not pretty. >>

I've been in two accidents.

First one wasn't my fault - drunk-driver was completely on the wrong side of the road and went into me front-on, and got to see my airbag. Wasn't hurt badly though (couple of bruises).

Second accident was my fault, but not major. Was in a bit of an irritable mood coming off the motorway, so not in the best state of concentration. Thought the woman had gone on the roundabout (was enough room just for two cars, and I was hoping to be second). Turned round, noticed she hadn't gone, and realised I couldn't stop in time.

One incident I saw, a car decided it wanted to turn round as the traffic jammed up, but forgot to check behind him for bikes coming up the side... biker slammed into the side of his car, but fortunately he stood up (and was in full leathers), so he wasn't too hurt.

One near-incident I saw once was a car foolishly went down the side of a car carrier on a roundabout. Guy had to drive onto the roundabout to avoid it as it changed lanes. It's not uncommon for lorries to change lanes on the roundabout because it's a dual carriageway going on, so they get stuck in the left lane, then they switch lanes as the go onto the roundabout.

Drove over 70 miles with my handbrake on. Got out, and smelled the fresh scent of money lost over servicing costs.

Reminds me of Mitch Hedberg and the "Make the car smell funny" lever.

I've been in more accidents than I can remember. I have hit just about everything you can imagine. Light poles, parked cars, moving cars, mail boxes, telephone booths, a tank, concrete barrier, metal barrier, a tree, almost a camel (that would of been bad), a fence, and a river.

The worst driving experience I had though was when I was trying to get certified in the UK.
They drive on the wrong side of the road, the stick is on the wrong side, the steering whell is on the wrong side, and my instructor had a really thick accent and kept yelling at me about US foreign policy. I got stuck on a curb in London and told him I was done and just to fail me so we could go to the pub.

I just wanna know....how...did you manage to hit a tank...?

I was driving through a pretty bad place in Afghanistan. The only rule there was: Don't hit a camel. I was coming down a steep hill lost traction and bumped into a (what I think was) old soviet tank.
