I Have my driving test in a few days. Hate driving and get scared everytime I have a lesson, though once I've started driving around for a bit, it all becomes second nature and It's not too bad after that.

Driving is as natural to me as riding a horse is, both of which i have been doing since i was about 6-7...
Me, I passed the test and everything but the nervousness never really went away and I just didn?t like it on top of that. I will say the first lesson is the worst and controlling the car does get easier. What I never did get very good at is learning to read the roads, especially at round-abouts, it?s just a big bloody mass of cars and damn if I know when to pull out.
Lol it's not scary for me at all. Driving becomes one of those things you can just use a small part of your brain for, so it becomes almost automatic, literally just like riding a bike.
I personally love driving, I love to just go out and drive for a few hours at a time, I find it relaxing.

I passed my driver's test the first time I took it, but I was about 30 miles from home so I made my dad drive home that day.
I still have some apprehensions about driving. I don't like driving in the mountains, and at night it's hard for me to see clearly, especially if there's a lot of traffic and I get nervous.

Apologies if this has already been asked but is that not a normal thing to have to do where you are? Here (UK) you tend to have to make the conscious decision to drive an automatic as opposed to a manual.ChaoticKraus said:
Regarding the rest of your post, learning to drive wasn't too scary for me if I'm honest, the only thing I didn't get on with at the start was roundabouts. God I hated them. Oh, stalling made me feel like a tit as well.
I honestly adore driving. Some of the roads where I live, (South Wales, UK) are just fantastic. I enjoy it even more now I've stepped up from a Citroen Saxo 1.1i to a VW Golf 1.4s.
Not by the time I was 18. Maybe a few times when I still learning, like 15 or 16. And even then, only on something out of the ordinary, like the freeway or something. Don't feel bad though, I used to feel the exact same way about planes....Until I got over the fear, and now I enjoy flying....so that wasn't actually relevant at all. The point is that everyone's afraid of something, and driving isn't actually not as uncommon as you might think.
I really used to hate it, since I couldn't really get the hang of it. Now, I just mildly dislike it because of all the idiots on the road that don't deserve their licenses.
Well I did my first lot of driving in an abandoned field/wasteland with few if any obsticles, cars or people. That mad me feel a lot better when I finally drove on a road. Though I still panic at junctions now and again.
Driving a car always felt quite natural to me- but I grew up always looking forward to learning to drive. Admittedly yes the first time I sat behind the steering wheel I did feel nervous and never reached speeds of much above 20mph but that?s what it was like.
On top of that I was also training for my Private Pilots Aircraft license- the first time you take control of the aircraft from your instructor is properly scary. Despite the safety features and the fact that there is a trained instructor who can take control at any time it is still unnerving. And even now I?m half way through the course, doing all the flying myself and set to go solo soon there still remains that element of danger, that little voice in your head telling you that the plane might crash, engines going to fail etc. But when you?re behind the controls of a car/plane, whatever, you don?t have time to feel scared because there?s so much you?ve got to do- controlling the vehicle, checking speed, being aware of your surroundings. The worst thing you can do when you?re in that situation is be afraid of it- because that is when you make mistakes.
Every time I travel to the airfield I feel a lump of fear in the pit of my stomach, every time thinking that I could end up in an accident (Despite the fact that literally doing anything in life involves some degree of risk). But every time I get in the cockpit, I take the controls and fly and when I do it is so relaxing, very Zen, mostly because I simply don?t have time for fear because I?m so occupied with what I?m doing.
Your fear will pass with time- all you need is to experience and face your demons.

I've been in a wreck (thankfully not my fault), and I have to admit, that shook me up pretty bad. I was able to brush it off 'cause no one was hurt really, but it still made me tense for quite awhile. I drive a lot more carefully now because of it.
everyone is scared their first time. don't just quit if you are scared after driving ONCE.Hashime said:

What a pity, I loved every minute of learning to drive. Taking the engine to just under 2000 rpm, then finding biting point, it used to take me like 10 seconds to find biting point, now it's second nature. You'll grow to love it, you'll also grow to love the pain in your ankle you get from starting to drive.
im 18 as well and havent tried driving yet.
and getting chased by dogs is freaking scary. my family actually OWNED a dog that wanted to murder me, but they refused to get rid of it. every time i wanted to go swimming or jump on the trampoline, i had to look out for the dog, and take shortcuts out the windows and crap.
