So I found out from my friends brother today that he told his mom and dad and my friend that hes been addicted to painkillers for over two years now. To be more specific Oxycotene and Vicodin as well as Perkaset(sp) everyonce in a while. And earlier today he was caught at a free clinic trying to scam the doctor into having him believe my friends brother had an injury and needed a perscription. He's looking at going to rehab or jail. I think he just ruined his life, honestly. He has a wife and daughter as well as going back to school and now hes looking at this shit stopping him in his tracks. Now I'll admit I've done drugs before. Weed, painkillers, and even Acid. Never did anything real hard like Coke or BlackTar(heroin, or we called it fake asphalt here in the midwest). And I can safely and rather proudly I might add, that I've never had the urge to keep wanting them.

So here's my question have you or anyone you know been addicted to drugs? Comments?

I've known people addicted. They know the risks but take them, their fault. Though I do believe all drugs should be legal, but regulated.

my parents are Probation officers. Its basically like cigarettes. Most are addicted to it but there are the spare few that are immune. Those lucky ones. Or for the nerds or geeks out there (sorry if that is offensive) World of Warcraft. Its just like that.

Pfft coke isn't such a hard drug, it's for rich people and businessmen. Acid has a much greater effect on your mind than coke.

Anyway known quite a few habitual weed smokers (everyday for 10 years type guys), a few people into ice/meth, a coke addict and probably a few more that I can't remember. It's kind of sad to see some of them never being sober, but the weed smokers and coke head seemed to be having a great time with life.

I suppose I'm addicted to ciggarettes, and I experiment with other drugs now and then.

My aunt is addicted to all sorts of prescription drugs, though she somehow doesn't realize it. She was pissed when we disposed of my grandfather's vicodin when he died. The odd thing is that she's a psychiatric nurse and should recognize addiction, especially since she's had problems with other addictions in the past.

My ex-boyfriend's group of friends all had some drug issues, as well.
I've never tried any and never plan to, so I'm glad to be away from that atmosphere.

I have had a lot of friends that have been addicted to drugs in the past. I have cut ties with all of them (the ones with serious drug problems, not people who just smoke pot every once in a while). A lot of people try to help these people, but they will never get help unless they want to, so I just move on. It sounds callous and in many ways it is, but it has to be done.

Pot, everything else I have ever taken was prescribed. I had a pretty heavy does of painkillers at one time. I also was on morphine for a while in the hospital.

I have never really been a heavy drinker, never got addicted to anything. Aside from ciggs that is. I smoked for years. Until two months ago I just decided to quit. Have no picked up a smoke since. My entire family has trouble with this, my brother is a border line alcoholic, my sister has been abusing prescription medications and is not longer a nurse for that reason. Two of my aunts spent time in jail for drug charges, and where both released to die from what pretty much amounts to a life of drug abuse.

Lucky me. I suppose that is part of the reason why my Father pretty much left everything to me. I am not the fuck up the rest of his kids are.

Well I'm not, never done anything harder than pot and not very often. In terms of legal ones, I've got both parents dependent on cigarettes and both alcoholics as well a few mates. And then my mates who smoke marijuana 5 days a week.. Don't know anyone who does anything harder, but one of these friends of mine has become seriously paranoid and weird, because of the pot methinks.

My grandma and a friend of mine are addicted to smoking (yes nicotine is a drug, heck a hard drug) and I knew a classmate who was an alcoholic. Seems that he couldn't handle the fact that no one knew he was gay, well he thought no one knew, but he was a 'fag gay' so to speak, you know a stereotype gay person who's only concerns are fashion, musicals, that kinda things. Thus everyone knew he was gay, still he thought no one knew, couldn't handle that, and chucked over a LOT of Jack Danniels. Poor sod, he's fine now though.

I've never taken or thought of taking drugs - that's something to be proud of.
Likewise. It worries me how many people I know take drugs, though. Even some of my closest friends do, and I can't figure out why. As far as I know they don't take any particularly hard drugs, but even so.

I guess this is part of the reason I'm feeling more and more isolated from my friends.

Hah, I get back from a houseparty after being up all night drinking and doing drugs, and I see this topic.

Was addicted to coke once. Not anymore.

EDIT - The 'Drugs are bad' aura that permeates this topic is quite perplexing. Drugs are not bad. The user is.

My older brother was killed by a drunk driver 10 years ago. I still miss him.

I actually used to be a Vice-Cop. I think I've met someone addicted to every drug imaginable. The behaviors are pretty much the same. Despite what people think you can get addicted to weed I assure you. The reults are not pretty.

Tried abit of everything myself but never really got into anything bar alchohol (technicaly a drug) As for those I know my dad was an alcholic to the point it nearly tore our family appart. My best friends, mate was on just about everything under the sun and it showed at first I thought he was just a looser and he was but I became sympathetic, he really let his life fall completley appart to the point of begging on the streets for cash, died 2 years ago age of 19.

I've got weak lungs and a needle phobia that takes a deep cut out of the drugs I could take if I was interested, but I'm not. Most of the kids my age however are so I get the pleasure of seeing actually believing they haven't changed, and telling them yes you have.

Hello, my name is LaCoil, and I'm an Escapist...

Hello LaCoil

I've been on Escapist for about 20 months now. It's a habit I just can't kick. I keep wanting to tell my friends I'm sorry, that I shouldn't have decided to take the first hit.

Pretty much everyone I know on a social level are drug users, at least half addicted to class A's. All the girls I've had long term relationships with have been addicted to or at least heavy class A users.

Purely personal experiences: Some of us a relatively healthy and doing OK, some of us aren't. Some just sit around on the dole, others work. Some sell drugs, some don't. I've seen a few people turn into dicks or start stealing but they are by far the minority. It makes it harder to live a 'normal' life but not impossible. It certainly sucks away your focus and motivation and make you less sociable and makes a lot of people less accepting of you.

The poeple with the worst drug related problems have generally been crack addicts since it is so expensive, has a short duration and always leaves you wanting more. Also, there is little effective treatment available. Benzodiazepines really help in taking away the comedown but do nothing to stop you wanting crack.

One of my best friends is the best pot-head ever. She's quick to point out that she's not addicted. Evidence of this is the number of times that she's quit....

It's still nowhere near as bad as booze as far as addiction potential, damage to the body, or behavior of people while on the substance.

Agreed. However saying something is okay or isn't bad because it's not AS bad as something else is odd reason. Not saying that you're doing that here. Just many do.

I've seen people who begin to prefer smoking weed rather than doing the following (but it's not limited to this) working, paying bills, feeding their kids, sex, bathing, getting up to use the restroom, and oddly enough eating.
