[sub]Shh... Don't tell them, they don't like it when you use the medical facts...[/sub]

But really. If you don't sugar-coat your opinion, someone will flame you. I've said that multiple times on here and always gotten someone going "Well that's just propaganda, smoking isn't that bad, I haven't had any negative effects, you're being controlled by the government," which I wanted to avoid this time. What I really meant was "There's no way in hell I'm wasting my money and health to feel nice and get addicted."
Hmm... this creates an interesting situation- I agree with you on every point but I myself am a smoker, and unapologetic about it.

There has to be word for this.

The only intake of an unnecessary I've ever taken is from Sharpie(I don't even think you can get high on those) and a some opium from a Poppy Seed Muffin I ate when I was a kid.

And then you tell people they have an addiction problem and they say, "Nah! Marijuana isn't addicting!"

Well then why don't you stop using it for a month? "Because man, I need it for a good time [and/or insert bogus claim here]."

ANY psychologist will tell you that it's possible to get addicted to ANYthing that alters the chemical composition of the brain in certain ways.

And then you tell them that, even list endless sources that warn about the negative effects of such a drug, and they respond "Oh, that's a government website." or something like that.

Ung... You can't win with these people. At any rate, I don't do drugs, and like the person above, I find them a total waste.
Eh your half right there- theres alot of conflicting evidence about the negative effects of weed, and ultimately its no more harmful then alcohol, but there is a vast amount of what amounts to little more then scare tactics and propaganda which heavily overstates the negative.

I used to smoke quite a bit towards the end of my high school days and in college. I'm now 27 and I haven't touched it for years now...geez, maybe even 7 years...
From my experience it does become habit forming, but not addicting. There aren't physical withdrawl symptoms but you still want to do it.
I didn't quit of my own accord either: it got to a point where every time I smoked I just felt like shit, super panicky and I didn't even get "high" anymore, I would just zone out into this state where I thought I was dying.

Has anybody else experienced this with pot? Gaining a complete aversion to it after years of enjoyable use?

Being the cheapskate that I am, I don't do anything because drugs are way too expensive. And they are illegal. And are unhealthy. And give wicked hangovers.

I'm fine without them, for me the good doesn't outweigh the bad.

Recently I decided to grow the fuck up. I'm not bothered by any drugs or the people who do them (except for meth/coke addicts. Those guys are sketchy as fuck).

Hell I used to hate them smell of cigarettes, now it's actually calming to me.

EDIT: As for doing them: I don't. I've tried a cigarette and well, it's just not my thing. I haven't tried weed because I'm way too much of a pussy. As for the harder stuff, well, no. Never.

All drugs, cannabis and other recreationals included, have side effects. That being said, I think it should be an individual choice. I just don't want to encounter Alzheimer's earlier than I have to.

I've never taken interest because it sounds like a very expensive pasttime, possibly even higher than high-tier new release gaming on a regular basis. Even if it were cheap, I'd still be to lazy to look into it, compounded with its legal status where I live.

Well this is has got to be the first legitimate mature conversation i have seen on this website regarding drugs.

well done

Anyway, I have done almost every drug save for H and Meth. So i guess you could say I'm pretty experienced.

I started experimenting when i was 17 with pot and that led to everything else.

I still smoke pot every now and then but other than that i have been clean for over a year.

drugs are fun but they come at a price. i was lucky to get out while i did. some of my freinds werent so lucky, some when even deeper than me and came out fine. they effect everyone different.

If anyone has any questions about any drugs i promise i will give you a truthful answer.

Just PM me

Buh. Drugs is drugs; and in my opinion people are free put whatever they want into their bodies. I am a hedonistic pragmatist, balancing pleasure against incurred suffering. (Ie; heroin might be a blast, but addiction ain't so good, so I stick to what doesn't hurt me)

I drink, socially, but on average only once a month. Perhaps I feel a little hung over after, but I doubt I'll do myself lasting harm. In the same manner, I smoke weed occasionally, though even more rarely. It's good stuff, but I leave too much of a gap between times to be at risk of developing a habit of some kind.

The only drug I've done was accidental. I was at a rave and a friend of mine handed me a drink. Apparently it ended up with liquid E in it and I don't remember to much about it honestly.

Otherwise, I've never tried anything. To me, it's not about health reasons; it's about money. I could smoke a pack a day...or I could spend that money on a new game. Not really a hard choice there for me.

I am pretty open to drugs already frequent user of Marjuana because I just like it. Probably going to do shrooms later this year.

But anyways back on topic the 50s were freaking hilarious qua adds. They said that smoking cigarettes would PREVENT cancer and that smoking weed would kill you or make you go insane. Basicly anything said by commercails during that time were complete bollocks.

What? Where are you getting your information from? And what are you referring to specifically? I've never heard of a drug causing alzheimers, well except that one really weird opioid analog, and that one was the reason for the DEAs emergency scheduling powers.

The closest I've come to alzheimer's and illegal drugs was this:

I started smoking weed when I was about 16 because my best friend suggested it and it sounded like fun. I tried it and it was pretty fun. I've smoked it pretty frequently for the past three years (one a week). The reason I continue is because almost all of my friends are the 'Stoner' type of people. Whenever we get together we smoke pot and listen to music and play video games and always have a good time.

I don't see any reason to stop smoking pot. Almost every medical study ever done has proven that regular weed smoking does not effect motivation or memory or your health. It is virtually impossible to overdose on pot, you need to consume nearly 40,000 times the amount of THC required to become intoxicated. So if 3 bong hits gets you stoned, 120,000 hits will be needed to kill you, which would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and is impossible to smoke in a short enough time span. There have been zero reported weed overdoses in America. So weed is non-fatal and has no proven long term effects.

As far as the law is concerned. I live in Canada where weed is illegal but I have many friends who have been pulled over with at least 5 grams of weed on them and have only had it confiscated. Most arrests are at the officers discretion and as long as your polite and are not carrying enough to be a dealer, you should be fine. For the most part, when we smoke we do it at someone's home or in a private place, so even if someone calls the cops they would need a warrant to search the residence. When I smoke I never really worry about the cops but when I was younger and less comfortable with the drug I would often be paranoid of police.

People believe that marijuana leads to poor school performance or lack of motivation. I have been smoking weed since grade 10 and my grades have actually gone up from 65's to 80's in academic sciences and maths. Now I'm not naïve enough to believe that I do well because I smoke pot, I do well because of lots of hard work and studying, but pot has certainly not hurt my grades or my motivation.

Pot does not cause physical addiction, but anyone can get addicted to anything, especially if they have addictive personalities. It is not healthy to smoke weed in order to escape your problems but it can be a relief to people with a lot of stress in their lives. I know that when I have a lot of school work to over the weekend, it can be relaxing to smoke weed on the Friday to have a chance to relax and forget your problems. Some of my friends always smoke something called 'poppers', which is a mixture of weed and cigarettes smoked out of a bong, they are addicted to 'poppers' because of the chemicals in the cigarettes, not the weed. I never smoke anything other than strait pot. I also never smoked cigarettes because they are a proven health risk and I don't like the taste.

Finally, smoking weed is fucking fun. It makes everything you do more enjoyable, like video games, music, eating, or just talking with friends. Just observe a group of stoned people and listen to the crazy conversations and the hysterical laughter they produce. Laughing is good for your health and its a great way to bond with people. Unlike alcohol with makes you uncontrollable and sometimes violent, weed make you calm, and friendly; you also have complete control when your stoned and would not do anything you wouldn't do sober (except put peanut butter on Eggo waffles :p). Also I would never try any other drug, because many of them do have harmful side effects. I don't care if someone smokes weed or not, but don't rag on it if you haven't tried it.

PS. to all you people who say you only tried weed once and didn't like it, you usually don't get stoned the first few times, so maybe try it more than once, you might come to like it.

TL;DR: weed is good.

I actually don't think that it's less harmful than alcohol. There are a lot of reasons for this (I actually think that Marijuana is responsible for 3 times the number of deaths and violent incidents than alcohol... and I got my stuff from a reliable, scientific journal, not some faux-science internet source), but those things are irrelevant. The point is that marijuana is bad for you to AT LEAST some degree, and people seem reluctant to even consider that. Maybe the tactics and propaganda should be more overstated and more negative so people can get the picture.
Ok its a freaky feeling arguing something from this side of the divide.

Statistics are not scientific- no measure of anything gained statistically can be trusted in the same way other data can, its incredibly easy for the investigator to skew the results to fit the hypothesis, at most its a pseudoscience/prescience in a similar vein to psychology.

(a pertinent quote- "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." Sir Charles Dilke)

Also I never stated that it isnt harmful- Ive first hand knowledge of the effects it can have on some people, much like alcohol does (and spare time allowing I could find the data to back it up). I myself have been negatively effected by half a decade of steady use- where once there was roaring ambition there is now contentment and apathy.

And further more no the propaganda should not be more explicit- inform people and give them their choices, dont try and manipulate them through shock tactics especially when the juries still out- to put it frankly thats a dick move.

Also, a completely subjective and unscientific point but have you ever seen someone whos stoned? I know a large number of stoners and every single one reacts similarly to weed- relaxed and giggly, I have never seen anyone get violent or aggressive- but of course such conclusions based on a small sample size are meaningless.
But then again if some people do get aggressive on it then why are they smoking it in 1st place?

I don't know where a LOT of people get their information, but there are a lot of doctors that are certain Marijuana causes mental degradation if "overused." My current source of note is the Wall Street Journal.
