Dear fellow Escapists,

I have been looking for ways to game while at school without access to any consoles and have already bought a DS lite. Can you please recommend a worthwhile DS RPG, platformer or any other game?

Thank you very much.

Golden Sun Dark Dawn if you're a fan of JRPG's.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin if you like turn based strategy. Despite what others say, it's a much, much better game than Dual Strike.

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword is great if you can find it.

Find any game released by Altus on the DS, at least the RPGs, and they'll be decent.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, Final Fantasy IV, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Chrono Trigger DS, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Dragon Quest IV, Elite Beat Agents, any of the Ace Attorney titles, Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

That's all I can think of for now.

Oh heck yeah. My Wii's been packed away in a closet ever since my basement flooded, so I've relied completely on DS games to get my video game fix:

Hotel Dusk - Point-and-click with a deep storyline. Less than 20 dollars on ebay. Recommended only for connoisseurs of long dialogue sequences

Pokemon Ranger (all three) - You draw circles around Pokemon to catch them. You can then use them to solve overworld puzzles, or incapacitate other Pokemon you're attempting to catch. Addictive.

Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story - Another great entry into the Mario RPG Family, you'll alternate between controlling the bros and Bowser. I found it rather easy, but fun nonetheless.

Am I correct in assuming you haven't played any of the older DS games (cric. 2004-06)? Because if not, I've got a lot more recommendations for you.

And maybe you could tell us a little more about your tastes? Even just a list of games you liked/disliked will help.

That hasn't been said, definitely The World Ends With You. It's amazing. The Kirby games are always fun, too.

Okay I have a platformer and an RPG for ya'. Wow. They're both Konami titles? Weird.

For an RPG I recommend Lunar Knights and for the platformer Castlevania order of Ecclesia. I still have fun playing both and I haven't beaten either yet. For me, those are my favorite RPGs, the ones you pick up and say "I'm never going to play this enough to beat it am I?"

Hmmm.

I think I just hit on another reason I consider fighting games my favorite genre....

Fire Emblem. One of the best game series' ever. I disliked the whole "rewarding you for letting people die" mechanic of this one but it is still good.
