Well with christmas looming I plan on buying myself a DS lite. My problem is that I can't choose what games I'd like for it. I'm planning on getting 2 games for it when I get it, but narrowing down the games library it has is a bit hard.

Can anyone make any suggestions on good games? I don't really mind on genre as long as its not brain training.

FFIV was rather good in my opinion, but I think a must would be SuperMario 64 (Or whatever they called it for the DS) fantastic game, really shows off what the DS is capable of!

yeah FFIV does look very enticing. FFIII also looked good but from what I've heard, FFIV is better. Talking about Supermario64 makes me feel really old now :D, still the game is great so its a definate consideration.

Ah and pokemon, I still have red, blue and yellow surprisingly

Oh man... there are so many good games for the DS, and that's a gross understatement.

At least let us know what you have enjoyed in the past so we get an idea of your gaming preferences. I thoroughly enjoyed Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, but then again I was also hooked on The New York Times Crosswords. Vastly different games.

You need the SuperMario buddy! As a final choice from me - Mario 64DS and Pokemon!
I garentee that will last you a long time xD

I have been a big time DS gamer since it came out and most of them have become trade-ins. Here the the list of what I still have and won't be ever trading in:
-DragonQuest: Rocket Slime
-Ninja Town!
-Trauma Center 1
-Metroid Pinball (don't knock it for being a pinball game until you play it)
-Electroplankton
-Puzzle Quest
-Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
-Phantom Hourglass
-Mario Kart DS
-Clubhouse Games

Granted, my list is based a lot on replayability, but whatever...they are some of my favorites.

The World Ends With You took some time getting used to, but was pretty good. There's also Guiter Hero: On Tour is fun if you're into that sort of thing. And there's always the old standby of Pokemon: D or P.

*cracks knuckles*

Contra 4 (assuming you're in the U.S)
Meteos
New Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario 64 DS
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Nintendogs
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
The Ace Attorney series
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Elite Beat Agents
Chrono Trigger DS
Final Fantasy games

Can't go wrong with any of these games, really.

I've always been a big fan of rpgs, that's what makes FFIV look so appealling. I also loved previous mario titles, I think it's a bit of a sin to buy a nintendo product and not test one of the various mario games. Due to the large choice I might try and pick up some others after christmas.

When it comes to genres, they call me the genre spanner...some call me the spanner. Ok I think I've narrowed it down to SuperMario64 DS, FFIV, FFIII, Phantom Hourglass, Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS, Advanced Wars and Metroid Prime Hunters. Would phoenix wright be worth taking over any of these?

Elite Beat Agents, Hotel Dusk: Room 215, the Final Fantasies (remember, there are a few for the GBA as well), any of the Mario games, any Ace Attorney games, and Chrono Trigger DS.

You'll need to get:

Super Mario 64
New Super Mario Bros
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Mario Kart DS
Yoshi's Island DS (not as good as the first but it's good)
Tetris DS
Professor Layton and the Curious Village (I've heard very good things about it)

Or you could get an R4 for £50 and get the rest for free... (You didn't hear that from me...)

If you don't mind reading a lot and have a soft spot for old adventure games, I think the Phoenix Wright series is awesome. Animal Crossing is the best game ever for obsessive collectors / people with OCD.

Unless you still want to play any GBA games with it that is.
