Well with christmas looming I plan on buying myself a DS lite. My problem is that I can't choose what games I'd like for it. I'm planning on getting 2 games for it when I get it, but narrowing down the games library it has is a bit hard.

Can anyone make any suggestions on good games? I don't really mind on genre as long as its not brain training.
Wait for DSi.
Unless you still want to play any GBA games with it that is.
yeah thats a big factor, then I wouldn't be able to play the awesome Golden Sun games I still have :D

And if you like literature theres a 100 book thing being released on boxing day.

I've always been a big fan of rpgs, that's what makes FFIV look so appealling. I also loved previous mario titles, I think it's a bit of a sin to buy a nintendo product and not test one of the various mario games. Due to the large choice I might try and pick up some others after christmas.

When it comes to genres, they call me the genre spanner...some call me the spanner. Ok I think I've narrowed it down to SuperMario64 DS, FFIV, FFIII, Phantom Hourglass, Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS, Advanced Wars and Metroid Prime Hunters. Would phoenix wright be worth taking over any of these?
Yes, YES Phoenix Wright would absolutely be worth taking over any of those. Not that these games aren't good - most of them I own and have enjoyed - but the Phoenix Wright series is hands down one of the most fun series I've played in a long time. It's witty, funny, makes you think, has very enjoyable/entertaining characters, and when you find a contradiction, it's extremely satisfying - so satisfying that it feels better than beating the final bosses of some games.

But onto more advice if you don't care too much for Phoenix Wright. If you've always been a fan of RPGs, you've probably played a number of Final Fantasy games.. so I think it would really be worth your time to check out The World Ends With You. Definitely shakes up the typical genre, is a lot of fun, and has a great soundtrack to book.

The final game I would recommend is Elite Beat Agents. Definitely a great, off-the-beat rhythm game if you like those. Of course, Mario Kart DS, Super Mario 64 DS (if you haven't played it before), and Metroid Prime Hunters are all excellent choices... but please give these other games a chance. They're definitely worth your time.

Get yerself one of those DS Zelda games, and don't get Super Mario 64DS. Its not nearly as fun as it is on the original N64, and its pretty much the same game with more character changing.
I agree with FF4, though.

I know! Far Cry for the DS.

Metroid prime is a MUST so is Castlevania PoR or the dawn of sorrow (or something like that) um Mario Kart is quite fun, pokemon is good if you like RPGs.

Chrono Trigger, if you don't already own it you NEED to buy it, what the hell are you waiting for? GO!

Other than that I really enjoyed The World Ends With You.

Phoenix Wright is only worth getting if you are into courtroom dramas. If you can't get enough of Perry Mason, Law and Order, Matlock, etc. then you should get it. If you prefer games with actual action and not just a bunch of arguing and talking, then I'd get something else. I would also get FFIV over FFIII. I've played both. I still have FFIV but traded in FFIII. FFIII is too different from the classic FF way of playing game for my taste. I don't care too much for the FF games that are not turn based in the fights. Phantom Hourglass looks really cool, but I got stuck and couldn't figure out what to do next fairly early on in the game. I had to resort to cheat codes to beat the first set of dungeons, but have no idea what to do next. I'd get Super Mario Bros over Phantom Hourglass.

You might want to consider a little known gem called B17. It's a WWII bomber sim in which you go around the different stations of a B17 bomber during a series of bombing missions. You can switch to any gun emplacement on the plane using the shoulder buttons to shoot down enemy planes. You also aim and drop the bombs trying to take out the specific targets for each mission. It plays really well on the DS and can be found for less than the price of most new DS games. There aren't any other games like it that I know of for the DS and very few like it have been made in the past, so it's a fairly novel experience. It starts out easy but gets pretty challenging in later missions.
