Is the joke meant for humor? Okay, you can say whatever you want about what you want. No big deal.
Are you saying it to be derogatory? Than no, it's not cool.

There's a different between someone making a rape joke, and someone making fun of the fact that you were raped. If that makes any sense.

Yeah, thats the heart of it right there. Intent is EVERYTHING! It even applies to racism! If you are just trying to be funny about a topic or an event or something, and the joke is actually good,
What did the pizza boy deliver to the world trade center on september 11th?

2 large plains.
then thats all well and good. If you are doing it to mock people who were very personally involved in that terrible event, then thats bad, and you should feel bad.

Basically, yeah, nothing is exempt from humor, though everyone has SOME subject they don't want to joke about due to personal experiences (I'm not a fan of rape jokes, since I know a couple of people, but there are some ones that still make me giggle and hate myself). So, you can make fun of anything, but not everything around everyone, ya know what I mean?

Sensitive topics can be made funny IF approached in the right way. You know, with sensitivity. What I don't find funny are the jokes that are repeated over and over and over and over and over. As in, you're a girl make me a sandzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

I think I'm the last girl you'd want making you a sandwhich anyways 0: You'd either be bored to tears or die of some form of cross contamination. I am not a terribly good cook.

OT: I find rape jokes to be my line in the sand. Considering we live in a culture that already tends to treat the victims horribly and even excuses rape and sexual assault for various bullshit reasons, I don't think we really need to continue approving of it in our comedy.

OP, I come from 4chan

I have waded through the sludge of /pol/, Debated EVA on /a/, and seen a bloke pull a massive rod from his baloney pony on /b/.

There is no line; if it is offensive the person thinking about it is funny to laugh at.

Anything CAN be funny; it's mainly dependant upon the delivery, the context, and who your audience is. Otherwise, personally, I laugh at almost anything. Especially dead baby jokes.

sup /b/rother? I don't typically wade through those boards, as /x/ and /co/ are more my style, but I share your sympathies. Some of the stuff on /gif/ can get pretty rough. O_O

There are subjects that I don't find funny, but I'm not going to say that they shouldn't be a target for humor. Who am I to tell someone what can and can't be made fun of just because I'm offended?

I have a terribly dark sense of humour. At the same time I do have a line between something being clearly just joking around, playing at stereotypes and something that is literally being made to discredit or insult someone.

More often than not it is the delivery, not the content, that is the most offensive thing.

Anything can be funny, from dead babies to bananas. One thing is knowing how to balance the actual humor so that it doesn't border on tasteless.

The most important thing that a lot of people seem to forget is know your audience, or the company you are telling the joke in. There used to be a thread about here about when the right amount of time has passed to joke about 9/11.

The truth is there is no set limit for that kind of thing. You can make all the jokes you want about 9/11 starting 9/12, except any jokes pertaining to 9/11 will never be funny to people who were directly affected by it, no matter how much time has passed or how carefully you straddle it.

So yeah know your audience folks and never forget that.

General rule with my friends is there's normally 1 thing off limits, everything else is fair game.

Yeah, you really need to know what you're doing. If you're going to joke about sensitive things, then it better be funny otherwise it basically just becomes pouring salt in an open wound.

If delivered properly ANY joke about anything can be funny... However if you want an example of what NOT to do while telling a joke...
look up the chaser's war on everything make a realistic wish skit
That not only crosses the line, but nukes the line from orbit just to be sure. Stay away from telling jokes like that and you should be fine
I honestly didnt think it was that bad...but I guess I wont ridicule somone for being offended over it

It's more-so the execution of a joke that makes it funny, unfunny, or (close to) offensive for me. For instance we've all heard that rape jokes aren't funny (which strikes me as odd, because I can make a racist/sacreligious joke, or one about the Holocaust and get people to laugh), but really it just comes down to the execution.

Overall though, I don't find many jokes that offensive. If I can tell it was a joke, but I didn't laugh, I'd just say the joke sucked. If it seems like the person was serious, I'll either laugh at the idiocy, or be a tad bit offended that they seriously could think that way.

Personally, I think a joke about anything can be funny, as long as it's clearly not intended to be offensive. Even stuff that 'crosses the line'. I mean, even if a joke 'offends' me (Spoiler alert: It won't, I'm not a saddo (I jest!)), I'll let it slide because it was clearly a joke.

Everything can be funny. I believe that humour is a great way to draw attention to serious subjects.
