i had a argument with another girl in my class who said to listen to more modern day shitt then the "crap" im already listening to.(green day, bon jovi, weezer, hedley).but I said that the crap shes listening to (lady gaga, madonna pop etc.) isn't really music or great music at all, i like music original or by people who actually put their work into their music and not music about.... hell i don't even know what most "modern day" music is about.

But to respond to the main question: I won't consider anything she/he says andi'll just wave my hand farewell and walk away.

Edit:also fan of smash mouth if you know them.

I have a very open mind about music... however, one of my hipster friends used to recommend a lot of music to me, none of which I ever liked.

yea plenty of times, I just laugh because it's my dumb friends complaining about my interest in anything rock/metal. I have nothing else; except for the occasional rapper because rap isn't all that bad, but hip-hop is gross.

You, sir, are my hero.

EDIT:

I suppose if someone said that to me, I'd give them the finger too.
That said, there's a lot out there to listen to, so I wouldn't mind listening to more if I found the opportunity to.
I really have to get around to getting an mp3 player...

I don't care for iPods... sort of turned down a free one a while ago :p

I'll pretty much listen to anything from black metal to dance/electronica as long as the music catches my attention. That being said I don't usually go full on into those genres I only have a few bands that I listen to from them but looking to expand.I'd say I'm mostly into alt rock. It doesn't hurt anyone to listen to other stuff I just hate how people act like its pulling teeth to just listen to a song from a different genre than you prefer.

Of course theres nothing really wrong in only listening to what you like its just a little frustrating when people just shut out complete genres because they don't like one band. Theres bound to be something you like in every genre of music. In general I just can't stand close-minded people.

I mainly listen to Metal and Rock, but with some Electronica and even some poppy stuff in the mix. But I'm slowly moving outward, since I've discovered recently that I really, really like 70's guitar rock... I've also discovered I like a lot more Techno and Electronica than I thought.

This is the proper response to the OP's situation.
The proper response is to listen to both ;).

And I'm usually the asshat telling others to expand their interests. No use confining yourself to one or two (or even twenty :p) genres.

Nope, I am actually one of the people that try to introduce people to new music. Not in a pushy or rude way however. I'm also very open to people showing me what they listen to. Don't get me wrong I still have my favorite types of music but I pretty much listen to anything now.

I've told myself that several times. The result: lots of first enthusiastic searching which would quickly degrade into annoyed skimming through albums torrented off... well, torrents.

Then I went to Pandora and I have found a couple of nice gems. So here, enjoy some techno (cut me some slack genre-nazis) with cool sections and an okay body:

But then again, I've never been satisfied with much music that I've discovered, or I grow tired of it.

So my advice: Use Pandora and expand/refine your musical interests.

She made me 4 Mix CDs that I ripped and put on my Ipod. Funny thing is that a lot of the music I do listen to but had no way to facilitate it to get it onto my Ipod.

I'm pretty open-minded about music, so I can listen to anything really. I've been told that, but I don't care. I listen to what I want.

What I want just happens to be a wide spectrum of metal bands mixed with a good amount of dance-style music and the occasional rap or hip hop song.

People have told me that I should listen to this band or certain type of music. I usually tell them to shut the fuck up and state that they listen to some band I will never like.

Not really, people I speak to have learned that to question my musical tastes means to lose something dear to you.

Like a puppy....
Or a parent.

I typically point out that my collection includes but is not limited to Bach, Beethoven, Queen, Boston, Metallica, Megadeath, Opeth, Slipknot, Apoptygma Bezerk, VNV Nation and :Wumpscut:.

I listen to quite a wide variety of music, so I'm not usually told to listen to more, but every once and a while my best friend will tell me about a band and I usually intend to listen to it but don't get around to it
