Who here has watched Idiocracy?
If you haven't the basic premise of the movie is that humans have destroyed the process of natural selection, whereas evolution would usually favor the most intelligent, adaptive and strongest - humans have no natural predator and evolution simply rewards those who breed in mass numbers. And naturally those from a lesser formally educated background (not necessarily a lower socioeconomic status, although that does contribute) breed in large numbers as opposed to those with a higher education.
Want a clearer example? A person in my high school who was expelled for showing up drunk and beating up little kids for no reason is now on her third child and she's 20!. Meanwhile half the people going for a doctorate in my course have decided to postpone raising a family indefinitely because it just seems more sensible to us. And for everyone of us I can pick out three people who should legally be barred from procreating.
In the film the world has literally turned stupid. What's to blame for this? Well a lower consensus of intelligence for one. But also mass media, popular and generic mainstream culture etc. which conditions a generation of idiots. Whereas the world was always envisioned as a civilization of enlightened and scientific minds, it went shooting off into the opposite direction and opted instead for an age of fast food, low culture, bad grammar and cock jokes.
Despite how ridiculous the movie is (not saying I didn't like the movie, I'm just saying it made my brain hurt to comprehend such a future), it makes a valid point. And of course there are signs already of a dissident and bleak era to come. There have been forums here talking about a Fallout 3-esque future, I say this is much worse and much more likely.
Can anybody pick out the signs of Idiocracy? Whether it be from personal observation you've made, decisions made by an institution or the government which would contribute to the destruction of common sense, or more likely things you see in the media. Basically, recall accounts of things that are consistently stupid. And I don't mean little things like "oh this person in class said Na+ instead of Na-".
And if we come up with enough examples to safely say the world is going to the s**ter, than I say we're all better off burning in eternal hellfire on 2012.
