Dumb question

I have several messages in my in-box that I've read and don't want to keep. How do I delete them? There doesn't seem to be a way. (Right-clicking gives lots of options, none of which I want.) Down at the bottom there's a line that says "with checked" and followed by "delete" BUT IT'S GREYED OUT. How do I send those bits to the recycle bin?

Well, it matters to the extent that I can't click on it and get any effect.

And the same seems to be true of expecting a useful answer to this post. Oh well.

Not to ruin everyone's fun, but:

Check the box for the message(s) that you don't want anymore, and then click the "delete".
