I played it recently. Although I had quite a bit of fun, it suffers from lack of content very badly. Supposedly it's going to be updated to get more content, but obviously it will have limited implementation in the singleplayer.
In the singleplayer there is really only one scientific geo antagonist, sand tornadoes, which only appear in one mission, and are blowoff enemies for the duration of the mission. The AI doesn't really pressure you much even on classic, which is balanced with you having mostly inferior vehicles to your enemy for most of the game. I'd prefer having to choose between upgrade options too taking the mission slower to farm them, but oh well.
I wasn't blown away by the story, but it didn't put me to sleep either. The mention of useless things such as the resources the ship had in terms of water and fuel made me happy and depressed to think of a higher budget version of this game that had such factors required for consideration.
Outside of that I enjoyed the gameplay for what was there. Artillery is completely useless but most of the other units seemed to have strategic worth. I'm anxiously waiting for news for the direction of the studio, hopefully they hire up to 30-50 employees and pump out another game in the universe with a normal budget. I wouldn't mind another ground based combat game, so long as it implied why the galactic combat isn't interesting and had scientific anomalies that chewed both you and your enemy up.
