Yes, yes, EA is evil. But bear in mind that they ate Bullfrog Games two years before DK1 came along, so they must've realized something was moderately wonderful about this blissfully evil IP to craft its sequel. If they can keep the atmosphere, they should be able to create worthy of attention and fits of demonic giggling. If not...
And I think it could actually function as an MMO. The difference being that rather than having a single character run about an enormous world with a knapsack loaded down with more hardware than an average Home Depot, you'd have your own personal corner of that world, complete with a portal to summon vicious beasties, treacherous passages bristling with spikes, and a mass of imps to carry out your nefarious desires. If you want to expand, you could do that. Mind you, you wouldn't be able to dig too far without meeting a neighbour and having to ponder that age old debate: "Should I ravage my fellow Keeper, plunder his treasuries, and devour his heart or should I enter into a peace treaty with him and THEN ravage, plunder, and devour..?" It would require rethinking the entire MMO framework (respawning is a bit difficult when your heart is stationary) but that someone is attempting to do so gives me a smile.
Also, I'd dearly love to hear Richard Ridings as the Mentor again. And if playing as a lord of the land instead of a keeper was an option for a player, can you imagine possibilities of the Mentor mocking you as you try desperately to stem the flow of evil pouring out of the underworld?
"Normally, I'd warn the Keepers of your presence but I can't see them having much of a problem with your pathetic little minions."
Sweet gods, don't screw this up, EA.
