Eh, not interested.

I'd be more interested in a version of DK2 that would run on modern machines. My copy has been gathering dust for years. :(
I'd much rather have a new dungeon keeper game, one that had the same kickassery of DK1, the mechanics of DK2 and some decent AI...the one in the 2nd game was awful..whoever designed the creatures to follow the Call to Arms banner and not attack any foe in sight...boy do i want to know what they were thinking.

Yes, yes, EA is evil. But bear in mind that they ate Bullfrog Games two years before DK1 came along, so they must've realized something was moderately wonderful about this blissfully evil IP to craft its sequel. If they can keep the atmosphere, they should be able to create worthy of attention and fits of demonic giggling. If not...

And I think it could actually function as an MMO. The difference being that rather than having a single character run about an enormous world with a knapsack loaded down with more hardware than an average Home Depot, you'd have your own personal corner of that world, complete with a portal to summon vicious beasties, treacherous passages bristling with spikes, and a mass of imps to carry out your nefarious desires. If you want to expand, you could do that. Mind you, you wouldn't be able to dig too far without meeting a neighbour and having to ponder that age old debate: "Should I ravage my fellow Keeper, plunder his treasuries, and devour his heart or should I enter into a peace treaty with him and THEN ravage, plunder, and devour..?" It would require rethinking the entire MMO framework (respawning is a bit difficult when your heart is stationary) but that someone is attempting to do so gives me a smile.

Also, I'd dearly love to hear Richard Ridings as the Mentor again. And if playing as a lord of the land instead of a keeper was an option for a player, can you imagine possibilities of the Mentor mocking you as you try desperately to stem the flow of evil pouring out of the underworld?

"Normally, I'd warn the Keepers of your presence but I can't see them having much of a problem with your pathetic little minions."

Sweet gods, don't screw this up, EA.

They're dumping all the parody and sticking it in an unfamiliar market on purpose. Their entire goal is to make it into a serious asian grindfest.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Asians have a passing knowledge of Western culture, enough to know what it's about, not enough to know details of the original IP. They're essentially hoping it'll turn into a Dungeons and Dragons for them.

Also, I'm looking at that picture and thinking 'Yarrr Cthulhu!'

This sounded rather interesting, but there are a few issues I have with it.

1) All that concept art appears to be stating outright, "We are making a World of Warcraft Clone! But with more spikes!" Even the logo looks essentially like a WoW logo. The bright, highly defined colours aid the comparison immensely. Why does everyone always seem to think adding spikes and blades to rather generic character designs somehow makes them more hardcore and evil looking?

2) The only concept art there resembling anything from the previous DK games is the reaper (who seems awfully lumpy to me) and the dark mistress (who is nearly perfect). The rest of the characters don't even hint at the fact that they're DK concept art. +1 to the WoW clone theory. The pirate does the traditional DK Slouch that many monsters seem to use, though, so there may be some hope there.

3) "Demon" race? Er... I'm pretty sure nearly everything in DK qualifies as a demon, seeing as they all live in the underworld. Even the flies, probably. I'm going to guess that the "Demon race" will look essentially like the usual demon stereotype, which is to say, "Like Horny." Or... Bile Demons? I would really, really enjoy seeing someone try to play a Bile Demon character. ;-)

I'm not sure what to make of it, really - from what little is available, it looks like they've thrown out the DK look and replaced it with something WoW-fan-friendly. Which is, eh, fine I guess, but why call it Dungeon Keeper at all then? Name recognition? I don't think DK was ever that huge of a success to begin with, outside its primary fans... I'm at a loss to guess how that would actually help it in sales. Still, I'm glad I know it exists now and can keep an eye on it (even though I'll probably never get to play it).

Congratulations Mr. Thompson (if that is your real name), you've to both raise my excitement through the roof with the title of this article, then completely destroy any remaining faith I might have in humanity by the actual article itself. I congratulate you.

EA has demonstrated numerous times that no name or series is so loved by gamers that it cannot be raped for profits.

I'm not saying they never make a decent game but I look askance at any new game from them that plays the nostalgia card.

simple answer for those wondering how EA can let this happen... It's EA, a game company that practically lives on sports games and their inevitable re-release. it's the same company that has sucked up good game companies, and made no effort to further support their games, or utilize properly the people from the companies they bought out.
They're doing this only because the dungeon keeper series was popular, and to EA popular = money to be had. EA's just hoping that a DK mmorpg will take away some of the fat money stacks that blizzard's been hoarding from korean starcraft sales and asian warcraft sales.

For tha sake of asia, i hope it turns out to be a good game, and i might be interested if it finally ever makes it to the western market, but i'm not holding my breath for either.

I used to LOVE DK, but im pretty sure they will extract as little as possible from the original, which is a shame because im sure old fans would love it.

I know.

This is a really bad idea at the basic level. Warcraft always had a very strong RPG element with the heroes who were the core part of your RTS force. Dungeon Keeper didn't and focused on its dark humor to engage the audience rather than characterization.

I can see how the look might appeal enough to make a game that was more based around being a demonic soldier in the Dungeon Keepers disposable army, a FPS that calls for you to lead a squad of monsters like "Overlord". But it lacks the depth to support an MMO, especially considering the already crowded MMO market, this thing will fail out of the gate. Especially considering "Cataclysm" might just be a nail in the coffin of numerous other MMO's, with "Star Wars" taking anybody else out there who might not like Orcs for some reason.

I would appreciate Evil Genius Online.
I would appreciate Evil Genius 2. And Dungeon Keeper 3.

An MMO? Seems, I don't know... completely unnecessary and not really compatible with the gameplay of the other 2 games?

If they can make it work though, I might just become an MMO player.
