So, recently I tried to install Dungeon Siege and ran into compatibility issues. Several hours later, it still doesn't work. I decided to install Dungeon Siege 2 and its expansion, got started playing and realized that the game just seemed to lack the charm Dungeon Siege and Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna had. I tried out the demo for Dungeon Siege 3 back when it was released and it also had the same problem (hell, it was basically an entirely different game).

I'm curious about how other people experienced it and if I'm just wearing my nostalgia glasses a little too tight.

The Utrean Peninsula Campaign had giant chickens. Of course it was awesome. Pretty solid dungeon crawler.

I actually remember going into the multiplayer portion of it and playing that. Level 5 character that was carried by some higher levels. Good times. xD

One thing I liked about the original Dungeon Siege, was the way the graphics were way ahead of it's time.
I loved the way the roofs of houses and buildings would fade out to allow you to see your characters inside. And the way the entire outside landscape would fade out when entering a dungeon or cave.

Also, once you were actually in the game, there were no loading screens at all.
To this day, games (such as Skyrim) still have loading screens when transitioning between indoors and outdoors etc.
An unfair comparison I know, but Dungeon Siege was the first game of this scale to ditch these loading screens. (At least I think it was. Correct me if I'm wrong.)

...

I did have a lot of enjoyment with the first game back in the day. Less so with the second. (Never played the third.)

It must be nostalgia. Can't really explain it any other way.
Yeah, I remember that. It was really well designed.

The second one just kinda falls apart in my mind. You start out as a mercenary and that just takes me out of it for some reason.

The third one just really isn't even the same game. First of all, you don't even make a character. You choose out of two (at least in the beta) characters. It just...I dunno. It's not a Dungeon Siege in my mind.
