DVD Burner Query.

A friend of mine is having a problem with his burner/ DVD Drive.
The last time I had a similar problem I found a DL to fix it and it seems OK but this one is proving a bugger.
The error code is
C00D11AB
Any help or a link to a fix would be great. Everything he's tried has come up blank and he's not PC Literate.
He also doesn't run a Firewall!?!? But I've had words with him about that.

First of all, what brand and model number is the drive?
Have you checked the manufacturers web site for a firmware (NOT driver) update?
Have you tried a different brand and format of media?

I support over 1000 PC with various hardware and firmware updates, driver updates (following a Windows update), and new media type/brand are the 3 most common issues with DVD and CD burners.
