E3 2010: Brutal-Looking New Twisted Metal for PS3 Real After All

David Jaffe was lying to us all: He is working on a new Twisted Metal for the PS3, and it was announced today at E3 2010.

When David Jaffe said he "wished" he was working on a new Twisted Metal [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100889-David-Jaffe-Not-Working-on-PS3-Twisted-Metal], that was just clever trickery: He wished he was, and he actually was, too.

At the Sony E3 '10 press conference, Jaffe took the stage to introduce the new iteration of the PlayStation's "longest-running series," coming in 2011 and developed by members of the original Twisted Metal team.

It's got a ton of new stuff: Helicopters, faction vs. faction gameplay (evil clowns headed by Sweet Tooth, vs dolls headed by Dollface), and it just looks brutal. It's also playable at E3, so hopefully we'll get to see it hands-on when we visit the Sony booth.

Well played, Jaffe. Well played.

Sly bastard! Still...

I did that. Literally.

I cannot wait. I'm considering making a time machine to go the release date.

Watching it live that commercial was amazing, I think someone in the E3 audience took the words outta my mouth "No way...wtf! YES!"

Sneaky sneaky Sony... I had thoughts of buying the new Xbox but you know how to pull me back in.

Does anyone else miss when Twisted Metal was a fun, lighthearted parody of old grindhouse flicks and not a dark, gritty story about demons duking it out in cars?
Because ever since Twisted Metal Black they really lost the point.

Seriously.
Before Black, the characters were things like Space Cops, Leprechauns, Transvestites, and Garbage Men.

Edit: And a Pizza Guy. Can't forget the Pizza Guy.

I was never in it for the cheesy story. They can do whatever they want with that as long as the multiplayer is just as fun.
I wasn't in it for the story either.
I was in it for the awesome grindhouse fun, not the "epic struggle" between a psychopathic clown and a demonic doll.

I approve of this news and will celebrate it by jumping around the room for 14 seconds while yelling: "YES! YES! OH GOD YES!"

When they drove the Icecream truck on the stage with a fatass playing as Sweet Tooth, it became an instant buy for me.

"It's good to be back."
