E3 2010: Valve Goes PS3 With Portal 2

At long last, Valve and Sony have made up: Portal 2 will be on the PS3, and Steam is coming with it.

Valve has had a rocky relationship with Sony this generation, and the lack of the developer's acclaimed games on the PS3 (or even worse, shoddy ports) has long been a thorn in the side of those who own the console.

That's about to change.

Valve big man Gabe Newell took the stage at Sony's E3 2010 press conference, and admitted that he had had some harsh words in the past for the current generation of consoles - that he was glad that Sony representatives (including Kevin "VP of Sharpening Things" Butler) were letting him stand up there.

Portal 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Portal-2-Playstation-3/dp/B003O6E3C8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1277737126&sr=1-1] will be coming to the PS3, said Newell, who promised the attendees that the PS3 version would be the "best on any console." Xbox 360 owners must be unhappy to hear that.

Hey everybody, I think we know what the mysterious "Valve E3 Surprise" [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101217-Portal-2-Delayed-to-2011] is. Also, Steam is coming to the PlayStation Network, with cross-platform chat. How that'll work is anyone's guess.

It doesn't really affect me anyway but I think the Steam support for PS3 sounds interesting, I'm sure he said Steam Cloud support for saves along with the auto-updates, I wonder if that means you can move saves between PC and PS3?

Being a completely neutral PC gamer, I'm just a spectator, but it's just so funny. I wonder if they'll announce Steam Play for PC + Mac + PS3 (pick game up for one platform, own it on all three). Haha, I just made myself laugh.

So this is the Valve surprise. I'm glad I actually decided to tune into the Sony Press Conference.

Oh, Gabe's eating crow.. Love the "Vice-President of sharpening things" comment. And the first Portal 2 trailer! Nice.

But then again, knowing Valve, there could very well be more..
