If they keep the entirity of the story intact this could be amazing. No one has ever been brave enough to tell that story properly warts and all. And as an action game it could be great. The scene where Achilles has the "halo of fire" and slaughters all of Priam's sons would be amazingly powerful.Baldry said:Ohh sounds good, especially the bit where they stick to the actual story. I can't wait wait sounds like a good game and it'll be fun to play one of my favourite story's!
No-one except David Gemmell, and he did it wondrously well.Lono Shrugged said:If they keep the entirity of the story intact this could be amazing. This guy has written a great review on David Gemmells version of the Trojan War.

Be warned, once you start reading, the sun will filter through the cracks in the curtains before you realise you've read through the entire night, I've also heard of grown men reduced to tears when some of Gemmells most revered characters pass on, Lord knows Ive felt like it.Lono Shrugged said:Druss the Legend said:No-one except David Gemmell, and he did it wondrously well.

I've seen those books around but I always thought they were generic kind of hack and slashers. Looks worth picking up after that review I gotta say. THANKS!
One thing I found difficult when I started studying the classics was getting into the head of people who have a totally different value and morality system and view slavery as normal. As much as a book can relate that I do think a movie, HBO series or even game needs to get that. 300 did it to an ok extent but was never going to be a history lesson. I thought Troy the movie had some good moments but was never brave enough to quite fling the baby from the walls.
If they do an Odysseus movie, Sean Bean should play him. I thought he was one of the few bits of perfect casting in that movie.
It's a good thing we don't live in ancient times or I would kill you where you stand. I have nothing against Pitt but that's just stupid beyond belief. he suited Achilles because he is considered the paragon of blondie manliness but not this. I hope it's just a cameo where he's in the underworld or something. Odysseus is more like an Ewen McGregor/Viggo Mortinson. (IMO) If you dig your Sci-fi check out Ilium http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilium_%28novel%29 Heavy going at times but well worth a read.Druss the Legend said:Be warned, once you start reading, the sun will filter through the cracks in the curtains before you realise you've read through the entire night, I've also heard of grown men reduced to tears when some of Gemmells most revered characters pass on, Lord knows Ive felt like it.
They have done an Odysseus movie and it looks like theres going to be another one in 2012 with Brad Pitt. Cant remember where i saw that though.

Haha. It is good indeed we don't live in ancient times, i quite enjoy life. However i agree with you, i quite enjoyed Sean Bean as Odysseus so i would like to see him reprise that role.Lono Shrugged said:It's a good thing we don't live in ancient times or I would kill you where you stand. I actually visited Troy a few years back and it's incredible. bearing in mind the war happened about 3-4 thousand years ago. but it's amazing for the guide to say "that's where we think the ships were and this is where Achilles and Hector fought." And "this is where Paris was a tremendous pussy" actually he said that a lot.
