What more do you want!?
Something new.

And no, a different skin on top of the same gameplay we've had for nearly ten years does not constitute something new.

What possible new gameplay features can you think of?

To answer Sam's questions, "familiarity breeds contempt." That's something that generally holds true. And from what I can tell, it seems to be a repetition of not only AC, but also Ubisoft's open-world formula as a whole.

That said, I've only ever played a bit of the first AC games, read some of the novels and seen the movie, so I'm neutral about it.

Assassinations would be nice.

I don't want more features. It already has too many features as it is, what it needs is to focus and do at least one of them right.

The game has platforming, but you just hold two buttons and point to where you want to go and the game does the actual platforming for you. The game has swordfights, but it's full of instant kill counters, and automatic chain kills, or good old-fashioned just mash attack till they're dead. It has stealth, but there's barely any actual stealth oriented tools and gameplay to it, beyond interminable tailing missions, and to reiterate, combat is so piss easy that it can be actually less time consuming to just run in and kill everyone than to try and make the stealth work.

I rather play a game with one gameplay feature done well, than one with a thousand done poorly.

I'm pretty sure that's more than most people can say. Although I guess I'm in the same boat, I read practically all the Halo novels before even touching my first Halo game (and ended up hating it).

OT: Anthem looks amazing. But that's the problem, it only looks amazing. This strafe-in-circles, open area, jump around-y shooting ala-Mass Effect Andromeda is just tiring. The world does look interesting though and the graphics are incredible, but between the gameplay and the coop nature of it, I'm not sold.

AssCreed Whateveritisnow looks pretty shit. It looks exactly the same, except in Egypt which is undeniably cool. But the stealth looks exactly the same, the parkour isn't nearly as interesting as it was years ago, and the combat looks worse. That last bit in the gameplay demo with arrow was fucking hilarious.

The Last Night looks amazing, but it's not really my thing.

Crackdown 3... Oh dear.

Everything else in Microsoft's show were games we already knew were coming out and some other stuff that I have zero interest in.

In my opinion, Sony is going to have to work real hard to fuck up after EA and Microsoft's shows.

Paid mods are back and the dislikes are rolling in. Looks like the porn modders has their newest Patreonesque cash cow given my previous experience with adult game development.

Anthem looked pretty and scripted and absolutely nothing else. Aaaaand they did that cringe-inducing Ubisoft thing where people pretend to be having totes fo' realz multiplayer banter.
What you don't talk to your multiplayer team mates like a bored HR rep doing an orientation for new employees?

The Anthem gameplay just kind of looks like they recycled Andromeda into an MP thing (beyond the bit it already had). Identical jump jet animation and everything,

The new Wolfenstein looks pretty good, although I hope they don't turn into Team America too much. I look forward to seeing Blowjob get his ass kicked in increasingly more fucked up ways.

New Wolfenstein looks pretty bad. Looks exact same as new order. and look another game announced with release date few month later. no more extra development time.

Now look at Metro Exodus. its a deep ambitious project and its getting release by the end of next year to make sure it will be masterpiece.

machinegames just change the entire theme of wolfenstein game. now look at music. RTCW has one of the GOAT soundtrack and feel like badass. not this some shitty 60s songs with more and more cinematic and scripted events.

Hah, please. I can add to the list:

-I have one of the Borderlands graphic novels, but have never played any of the games.

-I've read the first two Dragon Age novels, have one of the graphic novels, and the 'World of Thedas' sourcebook, and I've never played a Dragon Age game.

-I read the Doom 3 novels years before playing Doom 3.

-I read all most of the Diablo novels before playing the games (well, bar playing some of D2 when it was first released).

-I've read pretty much every Mass Effect novel and some of the comics, but have only ever really played the first game

-I've read the two Resistance novels, but have never played the games.

-I've kept up to date with WoW lore, reading comics and novels, even though I've barely played WoW, as it was the RTS games that got me into the setting.

And so on.

Not that I really care about either, but this is just one big fallacy.

The time between reveal and release doesn't indicate anything unless you know when development began. You can't assume that either game had more or less development time than the other.

Also, complaining about changing the theme of Wolfenstein is a bit...odd, considering how the series went from isometric stealth (first two games), to FPS with a cybernetic theme (Id) to supernatural-themed (Raven Soft) to Machine Games' current take. Wolfenstein has always been about killing Nazis, but its tone has shifted wildly throughout its run.

Also, since the game takes place in the 1960s...what? You think there'd be songs from the 1940s?

I feel everyone is being to harsh on the new AC or the franchise in general because with the exception of AC Unity they clearly put effort in the games.

I mean what more could you possibly want out of the franchise?
Either something actually different or just for it to go away. Cuz guess what this new Assassin's Creed looks like... more Assassin's Creed. Which is exactly what people got tired of and why Ubisoft supposedly gave the series a year off. But as it stands Ubisoft can't break out of their design philosophy of making every new game just a slightly different combination of the same tired open-world game mechanics.

I was dry-heaving throughout that entire trailer. I longer even have the stomach content to vommit up anything substantial at the thought of a new shitty Ubisoft game.

If it were up to me, Feudal Japan.
Why is Feudal Japan more special than Ancient Egypt?
Ancient historical background, new ideas of stealth strategies or ways of designing weaponry.

Something more than just a palette swap.

Just going to another place or popular time in history isn't going to cut it anymore. It's the open-world, busy work type of gameplay Ubisoft has been applying to every fucking game they've made since Assassin's Creed 2 (2009) that needs to change. Like for example, add giant robot dinosaurs (Horizon: Zero Dawn), or make it all about the exploration (Zelda: Breath of the Wild). Something that feels NEW.

Right now it seems the only reason they took a one-year break with this series was not to reinvent it and make it fresh again, but so that hopefully the general public will have forgotten how bland this franchise had gotten.

The Evil Within 2 is the first tantalizing news from E3 for me. I hope Mikami is directing. But if he was, they probably would have written that.
For sure, loved the first game. But no worries, on the game's official page it's stated Mikami is the director again:

From mastermind Shinji Mikami, The Evil Within 2 is the latest evolution of survival horror.

I hope Ikumi Nakamura is also still involved though her creature designs were fantastic.
