E3 and profanity

It used to bother me, but now that I don't live with my parents who would lash me with hickory if I said the word "Crap" with too much emphasis, I realize that in the sorts of situations that game characters are in (i.e. painful, dangerous, scary, etc) those barrages of shits and fucks are pretty much what my verbal reaction would be.

You might care when you have kids running around the house.

I would rather give myself a vasectomy with a rusty hacksaw (no I don't know if that's possible) than have kids.

Profanity is not adult, it's juvenile. Adults don't think that overuse of the F word is cool.

And yet you won't see Stephen Fry mouthing off an F-Bomb every other word on QI, will you? Because he knows where and when profanity is appropriate. And really, these so called industry 'professionals' should know that too.

We punish children for using profanity (don't ask me why, but we do), but adults can, and often do use it during regular conversation.

Most especially in stressful situations as the characters in games are often shown in.

And this makes it adult? No, swearing is still juvenile. And there is nothing bad about it. But the thing is (and you said it [after the next quote])

Profanity is nothing in casual or regular conversations. This was no regular conversation. This were people representing big companies trying to sell me stuff while they kept talking with a language that does not belong in this context. This is disrepsectfull to anyone listening. Context. Public speaking =! regular conversation.

To be fair.. Most of the hardcore demographic they are selling these games too scream things such as ******, ******, cumstain, cocksucker, ****, fuckstick, shitface, Sick, *****, Jew, buttfucker etc... over the mic whilst playing said games. SO really, dropping th fbomb a few times seems lightweight when selling a product to people who are 100x worse. They may see it as just trying to relate to the customer.
