I hardly buy any FPS's, except those with RPG bits like Fallout 3 and Mass Effect, so I can be proud to say that I'm not contributing to any of this!

Biggest let down was no TES:5 :( How I long forthat game.
Didn't you know? It's just an FPS with swords :p

I like FPS games so I have no problem with lots of themcoming out.

After all, there aren't enough really good ones.
But that makes it a hack-o slash-o button mash-o fest.
Lots of FPS games? Meh, doesn't worry me, just as long as the tripe doesn't cover up the few glimmering diamonds.
Good FPS games, and shooters in general, are fairly difficult to come by, and with so many of them, you could just title them "FPS #XX, released in Year 20XX", unless it's a completely new idea, then it gets a name.

I should have emphasized the KILL part. Overcoming opposition by putting lead in their systems causing them to croak. You're right that all games are about overcoming obstacles/ opposition though...just don't think that it's always done by killing. Ever played The Longest Journey?

Well the last remark has given me some hope. Thanks.
Then you'll be happy to know that New Vegas will not require any killing whatsoever, comrade.

Ahem...Donkey Kong Country Returns, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Kirby's Epic Yarn.

They are not all FPS's dude.

It's better than the shovelware crap. So, I think I'll go with the shooter games. Especially Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, that one looked like fun. Haven't seen the E3 footage for CoD: Black Ops, but I may pick that one up as well. Or at least rent it.

Are you trying to imply that all FPS games are the same? A lot of those listed have barely anything alike, one qualifies more as an RPG.

Their were tons of non-fps games as well.

It took you until this E3 to notice? On the occasions when I mingle with the peasants and go in to a game shop instead of buying online I look at the racks of games for the 360, since I own one natch, and just see walls full of shooters that I don't care about. And a couple of racing games maybe.

and this is a bad thing?? I love FPS and TPS games and obviously, most people around the world do as well. Companies develop games that are in demand, so obviously shooters are in demand. It would be silly to produce a game from a genre that isn't being demanded as much.

I like FPS games. Yeah they're overdoing it, but whatever, the industry will grow out of it. What concerns me more is the huge number of sequels.

The same thing happened last generation too, remember?
As long as they keep making other kinds of games too, I don't mind. I like FPSs but as they come out now, I only find one a year worth keeping.

I love FPS so... yeah.
The trend is pretty much up my alley.
Also, games like GoW 3, Vanquish and Mass Effect 2 are TPS, not FPS.
Just so that you know.
Pretty much this, though it wouldn't hurt with some innovation. When was the last time we had an innovating FPS, people?

Shame we didn't got anything new from Irrational though, that would be killer.

On the front of other genres, new RTS doesn't bother me much if it isn't from Massive or Relic and neither were announced and I got plenty retro RPGs to cover my needs.

As long as Fallout, Mass Effect, and Crysis are on that list, I could care less what else is. So yeah, I'm happy with that.

I notice you don't say what you'd like to see besides shooters. RTS? You've got Starcraft 2 coming out. Sandbox? Red Dead Redemption or ...Fallout. RPG? You know Dragon age is getting a sequel. Adventure games? Stop whining, they died a deserved death a while ago.

EDIT: I might rent GoW 3. The sequel was adequate.

Just because you don't enjoy them doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way. I prefer 3rd person shooters like Mass Effect 1 and Fallout 3(I used an over the shoulder view in F3).

I think you're right on. And "voting with my wallet" is exactly what I'm doing, sort of. The only new release I intend on getting within the next 8 months is NHL 11, but the past two months I've been re-assembling my old systems and getting back into those: Mario All-stars on the SNES, I found the better of the Ratchet and Clank games used for my PS2 (after selling mine years ago), and Duck Hunt on the Sega Master System. I've recently gotten the SNES, N64, PS2, and SMS back running and I'm adding the best of their respective games as I can (Praise Hey-suse for Game Source!!!)
Anyway, you're absolutely on the money. FPS or run & gun 3rd person shooters are getting stale for me, and I'm reverting to older, more creative games, as a solution.

It's not all bad
Fable III
Kirby: Epic Yarn
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2
Dragon Quest IX
Assassins Creed: Brotherhood
Dead Rising 2
Star Wars The Old Republic
Metal Gear Solid: Rising
The Witcher 2
Mortal Kombat
Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Devil's Third
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

And that's just at E3

P.S: I would call Mass Effect and Fallout RPG's with shooter elements, not the other way around. By that logic, you could call Dragon Age an RTS with RPG elements. I think that character progression, in story as well as gameplay, is what defines an RPG, and Mass Effect and Fallout have that in abundance. IMO, A good RPG will pick a play style from another genre and add Role-Playing to it, there's no reason an RPG can't play as well as games from other genre's

It took me until this E3 to get really pissed off about it...it's not like I've had a revelation (OMG WTF all these shootaz all of a sudden!). This trend has a history...and I can't pinpoint when it exactly started...it has just grown more "pronounced" (i.e. in yo face) the last couple of years.

I hope this trend goes the way of the point and click adventure genre. I really do. I just can't stand FPS games.
