What a liar. That crap was put in there deliberately to cause exactly this kind of uproar, considering what it did for Modern Warfare 2.
Playing as the Taliban on one side in the multiplayer is nothing like the stuff from MW2. And frankly putting it in for controversy seems highly unlikely because people actually being upset over it is so completely ridiculous, that anticipating it wouldn't have made any sense.
Agree 100%. When I heard about the "outrage", I was at a loss for words. It's okay to play as terrorists, but only as long as they are not named or belong to a fictional terror organisation? What?

I see alot of people saying "there are tonnes of WWII games where you play as nazi's" yeah but most people are fine with that because it happend 65 years ago. people are still dying in afgahnistan, it's not made to be a middle finger to servicemen but it is bad taste.
So, is it worse than the CoD games somehow? Just because the terrorists this time around are actually given a real-life name?

Didn't SOCOM let you kill American Navy SEALS as the Asian "terrorist" side in multiplayer? So does it really come down to using the word "Taliban" instead of the generic "terrorist"?

I am sort of feeling like given the state of so-called "journalism" today, that if SOCOM was released today -- our friends in the media would seek out the same mother and show her scenes of clearly American soldiers being shot up in multiplayer mode. Chaos and uproar would ensue.

Instead of MOH following MW2 it might be that media with the success of their MW2 uproar in the ratings, are seeking out their own follow up using MOH. The news story that runs is the one that gets viewers in the sought after demographic. How's that BP oil spill going... surely it must be all cleaned up now since the media has moved on to important topics like video games.

This just in: children are no longer allowed to play "Cops n' robbers", and will instead have to play "Cops n' traffic violation suspects", because word got out that a few people have died as a result of robberies.

I'm guessing this guy is surprised each and every morning when that bright ball of light rises in the sky and again when it sets in the evening.

Is He Taking The Piss? You're Making A Game About An Ongoing Conflict Which Thousands Have Died, And Expect No Media Uproar? Nonsense.

Who can blame him? This whole controversy thing over MoH is one of the stupidest things I've heard all year, and if it's true that the journalist intentionally showed the game to a mother who lost her son, that just exposes how corrupt journalism against video games is.

Shouldn't they be happy that Medal of Honor is getting such free publicity? One of the reasons that MW2 sold so well was because all the free advertisement that No Russian brought, and that doesn't even compare to what scorn Medal of Honor is getting.

Well if it wasn't the Taliban, then who would the other faction be in multiplayer against the U.S.; some made up opposition like the
Tali-bonnets?
If you're going to make a modern war game then you have to use current enemy forces to make it as authentic as possible.
So, for those of you in an uproar about this go eat a cookie and have a nap.

those words cannot be more true...

no-one creates a game just to cause controversy, and this game is not an exception. People do tend to get upset a bit to easily in my opinion.

Que every person in america claiming that the taliban are super evil neo hitlers and exposing people to them and their paganistic views will corrupt the world. ...yeah, I'm sure it's happening, and I'm sure I'm sick of everyone labeling the world in the black and whites of "Christians are good, and Muslims are evil" the world exists in shades of grey, no one person is good or bad.
Ain't that the truth.

huh, strange, because the last I heard it should be called "People n' Other People" because apparently lots of Cops die as well...

If he did do that, why lie at all? Sure, he wouldn't come out saying "yes, I just wanted some press" but he certainly wouldn't deny it either. He's telling the truth.
If he's telling the truth, he's an idiot who has no business running EA.
Why?

Are you seriously saying that MW2 wouldn't have sold so well if not for some stupid little controversy?
Yes. It still would have sold extremely well, but it absolutely gained a boost from the controversy.
Because clearly, someone is omniscient here.. *eyeroll*

Because it's his job to anticipate public response to his company's products. He should have anticipated this, even if he didn't believe it would happen or understand why it would.

This game is on-par with that recent military movie were the white American soldiers invade an African country and kill all the black people.

I think I can boil down the reasoning behind this entire kerfluffle to a single sentence.

"No one should be allowed, or even want, to play as (insert name of enemy we're currently fighting) in a manner that shows them fighting (let alone winning) against us, because They Are Evil and We Are Good."

Ahh, moral absolutism. Where wearing a particular character texture and team name in a game means you support their ideals (and hate America, too!). And please, don't hand me the line about "supporting the troops"; I respect all armed forces personnel, but if we start avoiding any topic or idea that might make a soldier upset, well then we'd better just stop making any war-based game that takes place between 1947-2550.
