EA Brings Free Mass Effect Armor to Dead Space 3

It turns out that Dead Space hero Isaac Clarke has a more extensive military background than we thought.

There are few insignias that say "I kick intergalactic ass" more clearly and concisely than the classic N7 logo from Mass Effect. When you see someone wearing an N7 walk into a room, you just know that problems are about to be solved.

Say, for instance, you've got a Necromorph problem. They're running around breaking stuff, ripping people to shreds and making life generally unpleasant in a number of different ways. Wouldn't you rather have an N-school graduate standing between you and horrific dismemberment?

With Dead Space 3, you can! There's a catch, of course: You have to own Mass Effect 3 and have a save file on your system. If you've got those bases covered, then the Dead Space 3 N7 armor will unlock automatically.

EA hasn't revealed what sort of bonuses the free armor will provide, but I'd say that the sheer sexiness of the thing is bonus enough to make it worth wearing. Especially the red variant, which looks to me like it has a little shot of Dragon Age blended in.

The free N7 armor offer is good on all versions of the game. Dead Space 3 comes out on February 5 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

I like little crossover things like this.
Like Sir Isaac's Armor in Dragon Age II.
And it's free, always a good thing^^

Perhaps it will unlock secret and unskippable same gender romance scenes with your co-op partner.

It just looks like a default armor with a paint job...

I'm not nit picking, I just don't feel the obligation to feel grateful for every single little thing EA throws out for "free"

I'm just as dumbstruck as you. At first I thought it would be some on-disc DLC that would be like £1.99, but it seems someone in that hellhole that is EA has a heart. This will not last...

Even though it is just a paint job over the riot/security suit from Dead Space 2, I like it.

(Though the fact that I think that the riot/security suit is the bestest space armor design ever period, may have something to do with that... :p)

So... is the Mass Effect game series canon for Dead Space? Or is Dead Space a prequel to Mass Effect?

I've played the other two Dead Space games so I'll doubtlessly play this one. That said, it would be nice if there was an option to show your contempt for ME3 by noisily opting out.

Seriously, with the ME3 ending that game series is dead to me. A cross promotion with Dead Space actually makes me less likely to buy Dead Space when you get down to it.

It's one of those things where the ending is so horribly bad and disappointing that it taints everything the series did right beforehand, when you know it's going to end that way, it sucks every bit of joy out of the entire thing.

On some levels whenever I hear ME3 annoucements nowadays I suspect EA is trolling. After they response they got I'd expect them to at least be playing it cool.

I do look forward to stalking space halls with a plasma cutter yet again though. Also even before the whole ending fiasco I did think Issac had cooler armor. Truthfully wearing Issac's armor in Mass Effect would have once had more appeal to me than wearing Sherpard's armor in Dead Space ever could... even if I once liked ME better than Dead Space.

So... Does this make Isaac an N7 Engineer? Does he have combat drones now? Because that'd make sneaking round corners easier. And necro-flambe would be simpler with the incinerate power...

Not complaining about this. I still love Mass Effect, and I'm looking forward to playing DS3 on Single player. Although I do kinda wish that they'd used the Advanced RIG rather than the Security RIG...

This will totally make me buy Dead Space 3. /sarcasm

I never liked these crossover promo things. Especially not this one because these are 2 different sci-fi universes. I take my sci-fi universes seriously. It's like having Obi-Wan in a Star Fleet uniform. I was kinda OK with Blood Dragon armor in ME2 and ME3 because Dragon Age is a fantasy game. This one just makes me nervous for some reason.

why is anyone surprised? we had free kingdom of amalur armor and weapon in ME3 as long as you played the KoA demo.

It's just publicity/marketing to get what's left of the mass effect fan base excited about Dead Space 3. It wouldn't make sense to charge for it.

And isn't Dead Space supposed to be tense and immersive? Won't flashy N7 armour be distracting? This is so lame.

The Dead Space fanbase has got pretty excited....I wonder if that will last when the game is released.

In all seriousness though. It really has no place in the Dead Space universe and most likely be as neglected and unused as the kinect features.

Eh, fair enough from a marketing standpoint, but the cynic in me just has to say "Soooo is this EA saying "LOOK! WE REALLY ARE TRYING TO MAKE THIS SERIES INTO A GENERIC 3RD PERSON SHOOTER! See? We even give you bonus armor from another third person shooter! Now you can clear a room full of necros as quickly as Shepard can clear a room full of Collectors!"

I facepalmed when I heard they were coming out with DS2.

I nearly broke my nose facepalming at the news of a DS3.

And the more info that comes out about DS3, it seems my super facepalm was the correct reaction. It's literally gonna be EA's version of Resident Evil 5, just on a different planet.

If it is just the default armor with a paint job, it probably won't offer any bonuses.
Still EA should be commended for not charging extra just for that I suppose.

Okay people, i get you're kind of angry at this "break of immersion" but when haven't you guys complained about something EA gave to their fans? i mean honestly guys you're looking a gift space horse in the mouth here....

I mean come on, you get to kill necromorphs. in N7 armour. i mean, just, hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng...
