I was just clicking around when I spotted this.

Apparently due to legal disputes involving them being sued, EA is pulling the plug on the game. Any thoughts on this?

Both EA and especially the NCAA can go fuck themselves. EA has settled and now I hope the players pound the NCAA into the ground. That's right, take it all the way to the Supreme Court, you supreme dicks.

the NCAA is in a giant mess right now. If this has financial implications for EA, this may spell trouble for the games industry.

The title is a bit misleading, since NCAA 2014 has already been on shelves for some time. Looks like they cancelled all further games. They had a nice little scam going there, "Here's NCAA!" then a month later "Here's Madden, the one you actually wanted!" Is anyone actually distraught over the loss of NCAA? Really?

Being a Brit, I don't know much about the American Football video games.

Are Madden and NCAA completely different games that share the same publisher, or are they the same basic engine with college teams swapped in? Why would anyone want to buy both in one year?

Pretty much basic engine with college games swapped. There are some diffrent modes between the two and if you have a character in NCAA you can port it over to Maddent to be drafted.

But pointless to buy them in the same year. It's really pointless to buy them every other year. Ever since 2K couldn;t make football games anymore the innovations in football games, both Madden and college, took a nosedive. Each year was basically graphic improvements and nothing else.

In the end each year you are paying for a 60 dollar roster update.

Good. Fuck the NCAA. Profiting so massively from the college players while only barely giving them a pittance in return is disgusting and sick.

Thanks, that what I figured

Yep, ain't exclusivity a *****. At least we soccer-playing nations still have PES to give FIFA at least something to worry about.

Oh no, we're missing out on our precious handegg games. Whatever shall we do. [/deadpan]
I guess some people might be upset about it, I don't think they'll find sympathy on the Escapist, seen forums full of people saying how they just don't care about sports games.

Pretty much this. I'd love to go on about it, but as usual, Southpark beat me to it pretty well-
Great episode about how EA Sports and the NCAA/Universities exploit student athletes who doesn't see shit in return.

Considering how little they care about sports games, they certainly seem overeager to tell everyone about how little they care.

OT: Well, I always preferred the NCAA vidya games to Madden, but since it's been about half a decade since I actually bought one, I can't say it'll be any great loss to me. Interesting news, though.

It's probably the end of games based on College Sports, but won't have any effect on pro series that are already licensed up to the nines and pay out handsomely anyway.

Madden, FIFA, PES, F1 and other sports series will continue like nothing happened.

Financially, I bet EA are well covered, they will calmly point to all the money they've paid the NCAA and say 'we have been paying royalties, talk to them,' the dispute's between the NCAA and the players, the NCAA having the twenty years of royalties that they've kept entirely for themselves.
