And so John Riccitiello still hasn't realised quality over quantity is what makes games sell well. At least on Nintendo consoles. I dislike the way Nintendo constantly remake the same games, but I respect that at least they put the effort to take advantage of their consoles and they advertise their products well.

Riccitiello sounds like he's a little stressed. Blaming Nintendo for your problems won't change a thing, but it might buy him enough time to strike up a deal so when he's asked to step down he can smoothly transition to another company and continue to blame others for his problems. That's how the world of higher-ups works.

I find it amusing that Zenimax is buying property while EA is cancelling projects, axing people and bitching about everything, related or not. It would seem to me that their "policies" are becoming incompatible with what is actually going on out there, at a faster pace than they can manage. Maybe it's their time to go down the drain. I for one will not be losing any sleep over it.

So basically he's saying that NINTENDO should make more games, so that more people will buy HIS games. How about HE makes some awesome games, so that people buy THOSE.
Because people are still stuck in the dead-end idea EA make bad games. Oh look.

Dead Space: Extraction got good review scores and most Wii owners (that are actually gamers) seem to want more mature games, yet they don't buy them (or seem to).

Besides, I think most 3rd party dev's should beware of Nintendo. I remember LA released (or were about to) release that Clone Wars lightsabre duel game. About a week later Nintendo then announce the MotionPlus. LA were furious. To say their 3rd party support is lacking is a little understated.

At least MS have announced Natal and are giving access to the tech (or soon anyway) to start developing games for it.

Whether anyone will be interested (I think the Wii's proven most of us are too lazy to wave our arms about, let alone stand up to play games) is another point.

It's time for the "Frustrated Wii Owners?" I see whining all the time to put up or shut up. If you want decent titles for the Wii, BUY THEM WHEN THEY COME OUT, and don't stay on your high horse just for the sake of seeming cool and edgy by bashing everything popular.

Nintendo Wii ... either a)Upgrade it's software to make it look... DECENT. or b)burn it.
Yeah, Nintendo should join the ranks of other developers who spend so much money on graphics that they can't afford to make the games FUN.

I was around for the Atari days. And I've been drawing similarities between the Wii and the 2600 for a while now. I see a similar lack of quality in the majority of Wii titles. Although the Atari was hurt by this more I think. Because when you are plucking games out of a bin for $.99 and thinking later that you paid too much, something is rotten in the state of Toys 'R' Us.
Everyone complains that there's too much shovelware for the Wii, yet no one can give any coherent explanation as to how this makes it any different from every other popular console in the history of video games.

But I disagree with the notion that Nintendo popping out more Mario and Zelda games is going to do much to help anyone, even Nintendo. Nintendo can do no wrong in the eyes of their fanboys who would buy one Miyamoto's turds if he boxed it up for them. Not to say that the games Nintendo puts out are bad. But in most cases they just are re-workings of previous titles and now they slap worthless Wiimote control onto them. I don't think this is going to appeal to most people outside the devoted Nintendo fanbase,
Rule #1 of The Escapist: Anyone who likes anything I don't like is a fanboy.

and it certainly won't appeal to the new "soccer mom" demographic that Nintendo has been courting recently. Because they just want their inoffensive balance board games and could really not give two shits about Mario. Not to say that EA isn't milking the Madden crap either, but I can't say that I blame them much for that because people are buying that shit like hotcakes on a cold day. And those who buy it, actually play it. Even if they are crushing beer cans on their temples at the same time.
So you don't blame EA for making sequels to games that sell, but when Nintendo does it, it's greed?

The point is that EA is pretty much dead right about the Wii. I've tried to be as accepting as I can about it as a gaming platform but in all honesty it's really situated itself now as an automatic Yoga instructor, a cheesy golf simulator or something one would keep on the board game shelf next to crap like Jenga and Pictionary. When you try to play an actual game on the Wii, one that doesn't involve bowling or Lego characters, the Wiimote/Nunchuck setup often gets in the way.
Speak for yourself. I personally have found the Wiimote controls to be clever and intuitive on most games that I've played for it, and I've been playing video games for almost 20 years and have owned all the major consoles since the SNES era (except for the 360 and PS3, which I simply cannot afford at this time).

And having garbled, pixelated graphics on most multi-platform games isn't really useful either.

Oh, I know what all you devoted Wii fanboys are gonna say here. "Graphics don't matter, gameplay is everything! You can't have a good game without good gameplay!" You're absolutely right, good gameplay is vital to the experience of a game. Someone told me recently that E.T. would never be a good game even if it had an awesome graphical upgrade. Barring why we'd want to do such a thing, that seems quite glaringly obvious. The point isn't that good graphics don't improve bad gameplay, it's that bad graphics are a hindrance to good gameplay.
Again, speak for yourself. I think the graphics on most Wii games look just fine. They're more colorful than the Real Is Brown [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RealIsBrown] games, I've never had any trouble telling what's going on, and the games with a more stylized look (No More Heroes, Madworld, etc) play just fine. Nobody was complaining about the graphics of last-gen consoles, the Wii is more than on par with the Gamesube and PS2 graphics.

And the clunky, temperamental Wiimote doesn't help much either. In all honesty stating that the Wii offers better gameplay is a fallacy unless the game is specifically designed to suit the controllers functions. And honestly, quality games of those kind have yet to be created.
No More Heroes. Metroid Prime 3. Super Mario Galaxy. Dead Space: Extraction. House of the Dead 2. I can name a lot more, but Yahtzee has bashed some of them so I'll be accused of being a fanboy.

EA may not be a perfect company by any means, but they sure draw a lot of flak from the community for making money. I'm just always confused why the only people making similar criticisms of Nintendo are dedicated naysayers like myself. I guess as they say in the old commercial after Mr. Owl devours the Tootsie Pop, "The world may never know."
Maybe because we're a little pissed that EA is whining about the Wii not being a good console, when the problem is that EA won't ADVERTISE the few good games they've made for it?

(I'm not making a TL;DR version. Man up and read the whole thing, Nancy!)
I did.

First, EAs CEO should understand they need to put more into development and marketing of their games because its not up to Nintendo to market them and I have NP magazine so I know whats coming out anyways and I got Dead Space: Extraction.

50mil to make COD:MW2 and 200mil to market it... yea its like that.

Second, 3rd party developers don't put enough time and resources into producing games on the most... widespread console aka the Wii which since its conception has outsold all consoles. They do this because making a good looking game is "easier" on the PC based platforms like 360 and PS3 and are easy to port.

Look at RE4 badass graphics on the GNC yet everyone say's the best they can do is some kiddy Zelda and the Wii Zelda is a freaking port off that system... Who is to blame? the consumers for not asking for more, nintendo for not spending a gross amount of money on making "high tech" hardware they knew was going to be outdated in a few years while they understood that the then upcoming format war was still undecided, or 3rd party developers for not putting in enough time and money to produce something worthwhile on the best selling console?

Now that the Wii is just hitting its stride and new consoles seem to be 4 years away at the very least I can't wait to see what new technology they have been cooking up in their labs.
