Ok EA what is wrong with you?
As I see it multiplayer is a spice that can give some games that extra something that keeps you playing. However it should not be something that is deemed necessary for all games that you make.

I am sorry if my inability to understand the gaming market is making me ignorant but to completely disregard the single player audience...

To be fair EA would have to hire writers to make a great single player game, and they just don't have the money for that with them working on the next 5 Madden games simultaneously.

Also, Isn't that why they bought a bunch of smaller developers?

The escapist already did an article about this. They aren't adding multiplayer to everything, EA are simply adding connectivity to everything. Multiplayer is only one aspect of this.

Really? Have you noticed the big EA on all those single player games? I doubt they're gonna stop making them. Dragonage 2 and ME3 would make EA a lot of money

No problem, it happens. Just to help clarify, you mentioned Mass Effect 2. Well the whole Cerberus network thing is the kind of connectivity EA are talking about.

...while EA does own Bioware, EA != Bioware. Bioware's gonna keep on making the games they like to make, regardless of whether or not EA generally moves towards or away from multiplayer.'s

EDIT: Though yes, it's well-observed that the EA approach does involve day one DLC and such as part of its Project Ten Dollar. But if this helps devs and publishers get the income to which they're rightfully entitled (vs. games being pirated), then I think that's fine.

When I read the title to the article I got scared someone somewhere thinks multiplayer should replace single player in every game. Glad that wasn't the truth. The day single player dies is the day I stop gaming. Though maybe online and offline will merge someday...

I did read the article and my internet connection is so poor that I can't go online, I constantly get kicked from games and I will face exactly the same problem if I have to b online constantly

And in response to that we have BioWare.

OT: EA has their online component that was there over a year ago to reduce trade-ins with Day One DLC. This isn't a sudden and horrfiying change, this is just it continuing.

It doesn't say that you'll have to be online constantly.
