EA Gets Festive With Its Very Own Christmas Carol

Electronic Arts' official 2011 Christmas carol says you're nothing but a punk.

The EA marketing department is at it again, this time turning a classic holiday carol into something a little different. I'd describe it as more "gamer-friendly," except that the reaction on YouTube [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6S9UlhqzO8], presumably from gamers, has been somewhat less than warm. ["Additional carols can be purchased through Origin" is not just witty but also one of the few comments I can repeat here.]

I don't see anything all that terribly wrong with it myself - it's a huge step above fake Christian protesters [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92210-Dantes-Inferno-Not-Really-Protested-at-E3] - but it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. Do you find the idea of grown adults singing "I'll kill your dick" earnestly and joyfully in a public place funny? Because that's really what it comes down to.

"Just because I like you, doesn't mean I won't kill you
This guy's a freaking animal, just listen to the noise
It smells like a whale just ate some cabbage
and died in your mouth, like a year ago."

No, it's not exactly sophisticated humor, but it is, despite some initial [and well-deserved] doubts, official. You can enjoy the EA Christmas Carol in all its festive, sanctioned glory at ea.com [http://www.ea.com/uk/1/ea-christmas-carol].

"Additional carols can be purchased through Origin."

Heh, nice.

Anyway, even though I'm not exactly fond of EA, people seem to be overreacting. Yeah it's pretty stupid, but what do you expect from EA? Also, I who's kid was that? Was the parent part of that group? Why would they let their kid listen to this stuff

Well... It's a step up. Actually, a fairly big step up. It seems like they're kinda self-aware with this one, what with the crowd steadily dispersing throughout the song, ending with nobody being there.

Well EA... I can't think of anything to say here... Oh wait, I just thought of something! Let's try this again.

Well EA, it may not be Kevin Butler or the "Micheal" ad from Sony... in fact, it's nowhere NEAR that kind of awesome, but it's not the "your mom will hate it" ads for Dead Space 2.

Wow, talk about damning with faint praise. That's like saying "It's not as bad as having sex with an electric pencil sharpener."

Wow, that must have been some reaction - the video's already been taken down and I don't see it on EA's website.

Side note, I feel dirty having visited EA's webpage. Is that normal, or should I consult a specialist?

It's normal.

And you should be ashamed.
