Lets just hope all EA do is publish the game and in no way filter or alter the genius of valve
This has my full support. As long as they don't alter it. SO far, I have yet to see a game that hasn't made me hate them with the EA logo attached

I'm facepalming rather hard now at all the panic reactions.

Valve makes a game. But they don't have the giant printing factories or physical distribution networks. EA has those. EA is in no way going to alter anything, they are just the middleman to help get the copies into retail stores. They distributed a lot of Valve's game.

EA also distributed the Xbox versions of Left 4 Dead/2, it's not as if this is a new thing.

Remember, EA are the good guys now with the development of unique IPS such as Mirrors Edge and the fun advertising with Dantes Inferno.
Maybe my initial reaction was a bit far, I still worry about the EA of old which absorbed and destroyed a lot of companies and games I liked. I play valve stuff on the PC so I didn't realise they had published all of valve's stuff so far.

And as I said, so long as they simply publish it and don't change anything then I have no issue!

As a massive Westwood/Bullfrog fan I feel your pain, but Valve have more then enough weight to throw around to avoid this happening again (thankfully).

Basically, EA's handled every hard copy of every Valve game since at least The Orange Box, and presumably the later pressings of Half Life 2 and the (increasingly redundant due to updates) Counter Strike Source collection. Point is, EA has a long history with Valve and excluding the PS3 version of the Orange Box, they haven't screwed up.

In other news. Portal 2 has been divided up into 7 different parts and will be sold to you separately at near-full price for each part over the next 2 years.

That's Activision, not EA.

It's EA Partners: they just put up the money to put it in shops. Like they said, they've worked with Valve before to distribute the retail copies, and even if EA owned Valve I doubt they'd interfere with them. They own BioWare after all.

It could have been worse, Activision could have turned it into another guitar hero clone. I can't say that I've ever paid much attention to who published Valves games, I always figured they did it themselves somehow.

If people dont like EA and people dont like Activision, what publishers do these people like?

Anyway, as said before, EA will just handle the disc copies getting sent out for people who want to buy it on consoles. Just like they did with almost every other Valve game that went to a console...

It can't be that bad seeing as how they published L4D2 and that turned out all right.

EA, if you are reading this... Please don't! The PS3 Orange box was botched together, and the PS3/Steam collaboration is actually really important. I don't want this to suck!

There is a very big different between publishing rights and owning a developer.

Had you taken time to read the article, you wouldn't be making these childish outcries of how the game was going to be ruined by EA.

People here don't seem to realise that there aren't actually THAT many distributors/publishers. You need to seperate the idea of a Developer (The person who makes the game) Publisher (The person that sells the game) and Distributor (The person who handles the logistics).

In this scenario, Valve functions as Developer, they make the game. They also function as a Publisher/Distributor for online sales. However Valve isn't really a behemoth, you don't make as much money developing as you do publishing single player games, so you partner up with somebody big enough to have the facilities you need. In this case EA are the ones with the printing/manufacturing plants and trade links with stores to get physical copies into people's hands. (I think.)

EA are sortof like the post office in this respect, no need for panic :D

EA don't just stick with their claimed job of distribution; they plaster their logo over promotional videos for anything they have the slightest involvement in. The Left4Dead promotions were the most blatant: you wouldn't have guessed they were Valve games if you didn't already know; EA made their logo very prominent whilst Valve's 'blink and you miss it' alongside Havok physics and ScaleForm.

They've been trying for a while to take more and more control over Valve games and to me the upset over L4D2 coming out just a year after the first had their stench all over it.

So, what brand of tin foil do you prefer?

Seriously, while I would agree that L4D2 would have been better served as an expansion pack for the PC version, I doubt EA had any involvement in making a sequel so soon, nor Valve's developments on Macs and PS3s.
