Someone at EA probably face-palmed and said "What the fuck are we doing? We have a reputation to keep!"

My friend was talking to me yesterday about how they did the same type of thing with the BF3 preorder. The bonus was a copy of BF1942, but the sad thing is, none of the codes for BF1942 were ever given out. I'm betting that the same thing will happen here. I mean, this is EA after all.

So after promising a free copy of Battlefield 1943 to everyone who bought Battlefield 3 on PS3 and not honouring that EA goes and does this. Wonderful.
You had to sign into an online thingy in order to get BF1942. I got it.

Deal seemed to good to be true. Still cancelling it early pisses me off. I have no problem with a company trying to go head to head with Steam. I don't think Valve should have a monopoly over digital distribution, as much as I love Steam, but Origin just doesn't come close. When I heard about this deal, I thought it was a good way of competing with Steam. Maybe in the short run they might loose money (is Battlefield 3 still selling well?) but in the long run it may have helped foster better client relationships, which down the road woould mean more people willing to use their service. Whatever, all I can hope for is better service from EA or these games making it onto Steam.

i preordered before that was even in affect will i get it or do i lose out once more

jan 22 2012 is when i did it
You probably wont. What you should have done is waited to pre purchase it. Pre purchase offers generally last till the games actual release.

Moral of the story: Always hold out until the last minute with digital distribution pre purchases for the chance of a good deal such as this. It's what I generally do.

WOW!!!

Absolutely amazing that they pulled the plug on this offer. I was NEVER going to give origin a chance, because it did not offer anything I couldn't find better else where. I pre ordered mass effect 3 for this deal alone, if it wasn't for this deal I would not have ever installed Origin...ever.

I took this as a sign that EA was starting to see the light of day, and because of that I was willing to give them a chance. I already have the deal so I will play both games, but when it is done, I will uninstall origin, and not re install it until I feel they know how to handle Online Digital Distribution properly.

Can we just make a list of all the idiotic moves EA have done so it's on hand whenever anyone asks why the Escapist doesn't like EA?

That was my first thought. It's EA. There are no Battle Field 3 codes!

At first I was second guessing my decision to dodge origin, I mean, two NEW games for 60 bucks?!? Then I read that part. Glad I passed.

I never preorder games, but I was going to do this deal when I heard about it a few days ago, but I figured it was better to wait to see what would happen with this bonus because it seemed too good to be true. I thought EA would pull something similar to the last preorder wtf with the free copy of Battlefield 1943. Color me surprised... EA backing out of another preorder bonus. Supposedly the people who ordered will get their offer honored, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

This is really starting to shed light on how stupid and broken the preorder bonus craze really is. Bait and switch, or bait and screw.

I'm wondering if it was possible to cancel your ME3 pr-order, but still get the BF3 code. If so, I could see people taking advantage of that for a free game without EA benefiting from the ME3 sale.

I just put my money in for a pre-order of the PC version of ME3 on Amazon. Does that entitle me to any of the pre-order bonuses or does it have to be pre-ordered on Origin?

Cock.

Although I did save around 14 euro by getting it on Amazon. I guess that's worth sacrificing some pre-order DLC.

well it depends on if amazon has any special deals with it so it may not be a complete loss

I'm waiting for the next news story about how all the people who were promised a free copy of BF3 instead got a lovely boot in their ass when EA decides that they, once again, don't want to fulfill their end of the deal. Then when pressured about it they make the consumers they outright lied to jump through hoops to get the game they were promised and then EA will have the balls to say that it was our fault we didn't get what we were promised and that we should be thankful for them even givin it to us.

technically speaking since this is origin, there isn't any actual box

i guess you could sell the code but it's not really clear how you would prevent fraud through that system without something like valve's transfer system being an intermediary

Strange, but then these are the people who want consumers to track game discs attached to weather balloons. They've had weirder marketing gaffs.
You know, with EA's track record, I am sort of expecting one of those copies to end up in the engine of an airliner and cause a huge incident.
I can see the news...

EA is branded as terrorists for bringing down a commercial airliner, and all employees are detained in Guantánamo. EA is defunct, and the TSA is confiscating all optical disc media from all passengers, and it is forbidden to bring one onto an aircraft.

Thanks, EA.
