Didn't EA bankroll much of the TOR fiasco? Seems odd they would so quickly be pumping more moolah into the Star Wars brand instead of trying to salvage their MMO and improve it. But what do we know, we're just game fans. We can't hope to approach the almighty insight and wisdom of a corporation like EA.

I could've sworn I saw an article somewhere that stated that they were not going to make any more Starwars video games.
If we're remembering the same article it was specifically about movie tie in video games. So we'll still get Star Wars games but we won't get Star Wars VII: The Movie: The Game.
Gotta love those wording loopholes.
They are not loopholes. That's what the article was about. EA has the exclusive license to make Star Wars video games. Why the fuck wouldn't they make any? They just made a business decision. And they're right. Those types of games usually suck.
The headline we were both referring to that came up a while ago said EA won't be making Star Wars games. While it's my fault I didn't look at the particular details (because I could care less about Starwars nor EA at this point) that's what I was referring to.
You read the title wrong. It said so right in the title.

No more Star Wars "MOVIE" games.

So EA bought the Star Wars licence a couple of months ago in order to make sure that no Star Wars are ever made?

You're thinking of the movie tie-ins. EA/Disney said they would not be making shovelware movie tie-in games - which is a good thing. But they've confirmed they have several Star Wars games being made right now, with Battlefront 3 being the only confirmed title as of yet.

On-topic: This is a good thing. I'd love to see an open-world Star Wars game, and EA certainly has the capabilities to do this. To anyone worried this is an MMO - that's absurd. You don't run two big-budget MMOs from the same franchise at the same time. SWTOR was the most expensive videogame to have ever been made, that isn't something you just drop overnight.

Unfortunately, with EA's microtransaction policies of late, along with their reputation, can't make me excited for this.

I'd love to see more Star Wars games, and the open-world genre is one of my favourites... but since it's EA I just know they'll ruin it by charging extra for everything they feel they can get away with.
Yeah, like how EA has ruined every game they've made, right? Fact: EA has made NO good games in the past 5 years.
No wait... Mass Effect franchise was fantastic, Dragon Age: Origins was phenomenal, Dead Space is pretty good, Battlefield is a strong franchise... the list goes on. All of these have the EVIL MONEYGRABBING MODELS but all are considered to be at least good games.

Agreed.

OT: I've enjoyed a couple of EA's games in the past few years but I would be very shy of buying another microtransaction riddled mess.

I'll probably wait and see what they'll do tranaction and DLC-wise with DA3 before I start getting all moist about whatever Star Wars game they are talking about making.

Open World, or open Worlds? The difference is mighty.

If you do just one world on an open front, then EA might as well stop before they start. Star Wars has always been about exploring different worlds and different societies within a large galaxy. This goes all the way back to even the first movies, when each movie featured worlds and environments that were very different from each(desert, jungle, forest, swamp, ice world, cloud world, etc.)

If they go against the grind and do just one world, then count me out. That would be a huge waste of an IP.

As long as it's not another MMO...
After the half billion dollar bust that is the Old Republic I'd be surprised if EA ever builds another blockbuster MMO again.
