I have heard that the studio was around 60 people.
Damn, I feel sorry for all those who lost their jobs.
But even though EA brought them in 2006, they only brought out 3 games, 2 of them were 2D browser-based which didn't seem any more advanced than the majority of Facebook games.
So I am sadly not surprised that EA didn't see the value in them, however I would assume they were working on something else, but goodness knows what that was.
Yeah but when you look at the spellforce - Series, you will see what incredible awesome games phenomic made, before EA captured them and forced them to do F2P - games.
Even Battleforge was still a decent game, i had some fun with it, but the payment model of that game just killed it.
They may not have made much money out of them, but that's because EA decided to make a developer, that made awesome major strategy - games, make F2P and Browser games, for god's sake. I mean how stupid can a company be, seriously!

I personally hope that Phenomic either reforms and makes a kickstarter for a Spellforce - kind game, because those were just awesome! Or that they all get hired by nordic games, who own the Spellforce Franchise right now and want to continue it, and develop spellforce 3 for them. Faith in Destiny clearly showed that Nordic games has no good devs for a spellforce game right now, so they should try to get the phenomic guys.

Seems like people are getting laid off in this industry every day. Sucks really, especially seeing as jobs aren't exactly flying around the place are they?

Btw. guys if your interested in the awesome games that this company made, while it wasn't controlled by evil aliens fro....
i mean EA, then the spellforce complete bundle on steam is only 12,49 right now, for every single spellforce game, it's just incredible cheap.

Reading my comment myself right now, i am sorry if this sounds like advertisements, i just love those games soooo much, they are just soo awesome.
Btw. does anybody know who would get the money now when you buy these games from steam? I mean the original Publisher is gone and the developer is gone. Is it a 100% profit for steam or do the new ip owners get the money?

Does this mean the team that was fired will start their own studio up again, only under a different name and not with EA? I don't get this. If studios get taken over by a big publisher, then they are closed down years later and almost all employees let go...why don't the employees simply restart the same company they had, only under a different name, and doing what they were doing before that got a publishers attention in the first place?

Well because a development studio isn't cheap. They did have a Publisher before EA, it was Jowood. They got snacked up from EA i think a year or two before Jowood completely went down the drain.
But i myself do hope that they do get together again and do a kickstarter for a project.

The sun rises, birds fly, and EA shuts down a studio, just an average day folks.
I wish this wasn't my reaction as well.

However someone in EA's upper management gets off on firing people and closing down devs apparently.

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE! STUDIOS FOR THE EA SHAREHOLDERS!!!

Just an average day over at EA, once all the fluids are sucked out of a studio it has captured it discards the dried up husk into the pile of refuse that contains so many other studios.

One word. Starts with a C. Makes no kind of sense once you stop to think about it. Is the main reason why you don't own your games just "lease" a "license" from the publisher.
