Jk, no I'm just sick of the idea of a trilogy right now...
Indeed - why not release 3 fully independent games (in plot terms) all set within the same game universe rather than shoehorning a long plot across several games.

Half-Life 2 and its episode manage it well, I feel, but thats the only example that springs to mind.

News just in - EA to make Skate a trilogy.

There are definately another two Bioshock games slated, but I don't think it is technically going to be a trilogy.

News just in: EA have bought the rights to Pac-Man, and plan to release Pac-Man 2 and 3 as a continuation of the plot of the first - EA spokes-puppets had this to say, "We really feel that the deepth and scope of Pac-Mans finicial valu--- I mean, story... was not fully explorer"

The Trilogy needs to stay in the movie business.
Indeed - its fine when there really is alot of plot that fits nicely into 3 games with gameplay (like the Half-life story). However, forcing every game into 3 pieces (*cough*Halo*cough*) only reduces the quality of each individual piece, I think.

It seems like when they announce this for a game, it is already off to a bad start.

Perhaps they'll give us an ending in Mirror's Edge that goes something like
"I'm finishing the fight!" (buy the sequel) *credits roll*

Too bad somebody didn't tell that to Blizzard before they announced that they were splitting Starcraft 2 into three separate titles.

-sigh- Read this post please [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.73934?page=2#818265]

Trilogy implies they're "Sequel games", three separate games. Whereas Starcraft 2 in three parts, as far as I can tell is three parts which are all part of the *same* game. They're merely going to have the same content and pricetag as a full game singleplayer wise.

I appreciate that your trying to clear things up here, Amnestic, but I'm already well aware of why Blizzard chose to split Starcraft 2 up into three games. Granted, it's not a trilogy in a conventional sense (being that it's suppose to be the content from the game in three parts), but it's close enough to warrant a mention.

... and I hate how poorly my sarcasm carries over into text format. It never makes the transition smoothly...

I try to make my sarcasm so glaringly obvious only someone suffering from lack of a brain wouldn't notice, it generally helps. Subtle sarcasm isn't so good on the internet :( I suppose it is close, but I wouldn't mention it. It's like calling Halflife 2 and Episodes 1+2 a trilogy. Sure, they *are* three games in sequence, but how many people look at it and think "Trilogy!"

What a fantastic metaphor :D

If they want to put a level editor into the sequel of an unreleased game, why not just put it in the first one? Is it supposed to be some incentive to buy it or something?
