I can already hear the laughter of Jim Sterling echoing in the EA boardroom.

that's so wrong it's laughable. I, like others, were all queued up to buy the game, before the beta. the beta LOST sales, not gained.
in communities i visit people were praising the game and quite a few said that beta sold them on the game. so the final results are still up for debate.

give the name, the current star wars hype and 9 million beta players i expect the game to sell really well. not sure of 13 million well but it is going to break 10 millions i think.

13 million buy and play in the first month. 12 million quit within a day or two because the servers can't handle the load. By month 2, maybe 20 thousand or so left who aren't bored with the same generic "Call of Warfighter" multiplayer. 6 months later, maybe 2 thousand.
during the beta they claim there were 9 million players (not all at the same time ofc, but that wont be true at launch either), and the servers handled it fine. so they can support at least 9 million sales with the servers.

13 million copies? i can see that happening. before the end of Q1 2016? eh, i really doubt it. Battlefield 3 has sold around 20 million to date, so i just cant see Battlefront selling well over half that in just a few months.

"...and if we don't get 13 million sales in the first month we'll alert Disney to cancel the new Star Wars films."

-EA probably

Taking the opposite stance from most opinions expressed thus far, I am cynical enough to believe Battlefront can shift that many copies on fancy graphics+marketing and hype alone.

I'd love to be proven wrong though.
It's sad, I'm in the exact same boat as you.

I think EA is looking at the data and severely overestimating how popular the battlefront franchise actually is and how popular Star Wars is among gamers.

Either that, or they've completely lost their minds. Its the only explanation to why they would think 13 million people will buy Battlefront 3 over Call Of Duty Blops 3, Fallout 4 and Halo 5 all launching before it. That's a game for every target audience who might even be remotely interested in it.

In his Scarecrow voice. It DOES seem like people like him have become gaming company bogeymen, huh?

EA aren't stupid, there's a reason they are still alive and more successful (money-wise) than ever before. They do everything for a purpose whether it is anti-consumer or not.

For example this completely bullshit sales prediction resulted in "news" articles on several websites (including Escapist) - mission accomplished, every bit of advertising & marketing helps.

I really liked the beta, but I keep having that gnawing feeling in the back of my head that there is a serious sting in the tail somewhere and I'll only find it once I buy the full game.

As a few people have said, they'll ride the Force Awakens bandwagon right into Christmas; with ignorant parents buying it because their "kids love the Star Wars".
