SERIOUSLY? EA, please, for your own sake. Complete media silence. Save what is left of your company. Shut the fuck up.
This all I ever say in EA topics anymore. Whatever slack jawed, gibbering monkey you have for a PR rep. Masking tape. Full body. Leave in closet until problem is fixed.

SHUT. UP. YOU. ARE. JUST. MAKING UP. EXCUSES. FOR. SHIT. AND SOUND. STUUUUPIIIID.

On reflection though I suppose I should be glad. Even if they did come up with a fresh IP, it's likely they'd botch it and then drag it to the graveyard for the rest. But making up excuses for creative bankruptcy like this is just shameful.

Kind of hard for customers to spend money on something that doesn't exist, so yeah if they don't release any new IPs at the "end" of a console lifecycle then no one will spend money on them.

And correct me if I am wrong but didn't new games and IPs come out for both the PS2 and the XBox after they new generation consoles were released? Especially in the case of the PS2.

Yeah, who wants to start a new IP with old consoles that already have a dedicated userbase and is guaranteed to have a larger potential audience then a brand new console? Not us, that's who!
Now IMO is the time to release New IP's. The best Games usually come out at the end life of the console as the hardware is known and the consoles are in the most hands. Not to mention the fact it would be a prime time to release new IPs to create loyalty.

However EA isn't exactly known for their brilliant decision making, this is hardly the stupidest thing to come out of EAs mouth.

Lesson learned from Jade empire!!

If that game made it to the 360 people would be celebrating it as they did mass effect.

Jade empire is just as good as the other more famous bioware hits but it was released on the xbox just as the console was scrapped

Ok just to play devil's advocate. Assuming they have a few awesome ips that will blow everyone's mind away I can see how you might want to keep one or two for the new console release. Lets face it consoles starting catalogues are very limited and often pretty bad except for a couple games. So if you think you've got one of the few good ideas out there I can see why you might want to save it and start strong on the new consoles instead of blowing it all as a late entry to last gen when people are moving on. That being said I'm not exactly buying that EA has anything really innovative or exciting but maybe they'll prove me wrong in a few years. Course given all the waiting they should damn well be good when they do come out :p.

I see, release new IP's after we've just spent all that moolah on a new console (thats not backwards compatable) so we have no choice but to buy them as theres nothing else out... OOOH PIKMIN 3!!!

Yeah, people is more likely to buy a new console and a game that they don't know about than just the game for a console they already own.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to release a game for current consoles and the releas and HD version, or full hd version, or 3d version, or FHD3D version or whatever. but the problem with that is that people might already know hoe much the game sucks.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. No.

EA, do yourself a favor and hire competent PR people? And some marketing advisers? In fact, just fire your upper management and start from scratch.

Captcha: get over it

Why is this idiot still employed at EA? Every time he opens his mouth, it's to say something that I have to use something from Yahtzee to describe: Pants-on-head retarded. I just don't get it, I'd have looked to oust this guy before he made the company look any worse. Or at least shut him the hell up.

I firmly believe that a good new IP will be rewarded no matter what point in the cycle it would be released. Perhaps releasing one the day before a new console was put on the market would be less than wise, but that's not the situation we have here. Right now, it's guesswork when the next generation will really begin. Yes, we hear muttering about 2013, but hardware can be delayed even easier than software. And we all know how often gaming software gets pushed back months or even years.

Even a couple of months is long enough to firmly establish a new IP in the hearts and minds of the public. And if you really want an ideal situation, why not parallel development for both the old and the new systems? Your installed userbase would be much larger for the older system, probably for at least a year after release, so you get that advantage, and you get your hooks into the early adopters. It's win-win.

But it's been a long time since EA thought like that.

EA, when you say new IP's, do you mean titles that actually innovate
No, of course they don't.

My predictions:
- At least one of the new IP is going to be a new Bioware RPG franchise, no surprise there.
- Expect a 3rd person sci-fi bro-shooter. Possibly set in the mass effect universe.
- A new survival horror FPS that totally forgets the 'survival' half of the equation.
- A sandbox crime game
- A MOBA title.
I'd play those first two
