I sure hope the patch FIFA 11 soon, it's buggy beyond belief for me at the moment.

Fantastic!

And you needn't rely on micro-transactions to get by. It's not a dry business model. As always, turn to Valve. A persistent world with constant updates means lots of eyeballs with good will toward your company -- ie, prime for Steam's between-game adverts.

Well I for one am glad they have ditched the yearly releases of same-y games. This sounds good in theory, whether or not they persecute it well will be interesting to see.
i hope you mean "execute" who would persecute their own game!?

I'd pay for annual updates to teams and what not. But I'd also want the past teams to be available from the game I started with. So say I bought fifa 2012. I'd want every seasons players to be available to me and for me to able to choose past teams after 2012 has passed, even though the game will always be updating transactions and competitions in the game. I'd pay up to £10 a year for this.

Pretty clever actually. This method cuts out the retail sector completely so this would mean EA takes home a much larger profit, not to mention still getting a profit from used games. The only issue I can see affecting this is that the main fanbase for FIFA are more (for lack of a better phrase) not really as invested in PSN and XLive as I have been told. If EA can pitch this well enough though it could be huge.
