You hear that re-inflating noise? That's the sound of me recovering from that Activision-Bungie fiasco with anticipation for this sequel.

Here is the best side by side I could whip up at the time. Isaac to me looks little different from the first game. I'll leave it up to you guys to decide for yourselves, though

Anyways, I wholeheartedly look forward to this. The first game was amazing, and I eagerly await the sequel, as well as the book.

Altman be praised.

What's that statue that's in the background of the left image? It might hint at where the game is going to be played.
To me it almost looks like a Samurai's armor. From what I can gather from the trailer, it looks like we may be fighting on one of the colonies this time around. If what I think has happened between the first one and the sequel is true
the Ishimura has survived, and in essence, become a plague ship. At any rate, I highly doubt the end of the first Dead Space is the last we'll be seeing of the Ishimura.

Altman be praised.

Definitely looking forward to this game. I should get around to actually finishing the first though.

I'm a bit skeptical about this one.
Loved the first one, but since the developers said that it would have "Modern Warfare 2 levels of action" ( http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/106/1067171p1.html ) I've been worried that one of my favourite IPs is going to screw itself by trying to be something it's not.

Though hopefully they're just saying that it's going to have a couple of big set pieces, and the rest is going to be even more mind-f*cky than the last one.

My thoughts exactly, it would ruin all sense of suspense if he would crack one-liners at any moment.
I'd also prefer if he was very sparse with his words, only saying a few selected words to get his point across.

...Wasn't Issac in his mid-40's/early 50's in the last game? Why does he look like Commander Shepard all of a sudden? Is that just for the trailers, or are we going to get some sort of planet-sized retcon before long?
You did get pretty good looks at his face at the beginning/end of the game (of course, you had to have the presence of mind to move the camera at the beginning part before he put on his helmet), and he's certainly no spring chicken- taking a close look here [http://hosting11.imagecross.com/image-hosting-14/6049Dead-Space-2009-05-07-21-18-11-20.png], one can see a rather worn face and some touches of grey at the temples. I'd peg him at a solid 40 years old, at least.

The video does seem to make him a bit younger, but his hairstyle and overall facial construction look somewhat different as well, so this might be the result of a newer (higher polygon/texture-resolution) character model in the game. Given what he went through in the first game, that steely expression could hide a crazed mind singing "Yay now is fighty time, fighty time, blood blood BLOOD" over and over to itself.
Well, part of what made him look so old in the first one might have had something to do with him
getting a message where his girlfriend commits suicide on camera, which made him dilusional (he had suppressed the image of her dying, only coming to terms with it at a very late stage in DS)
which could have made him quite stressed out and thereby making him seem older.
But that's just my excuse, and a new, higher-res, model probably has a lot to do with it.

Anyhoo, I'm getting hyped now, with nearly a year to go. Damn it.

And yes, that's right: After the silent anonymity of the first game, we're finally getting a glimpse of the man behind the mask, a rugged, steely-eyed space hero who'd look perfectly comfortable with a bright N7 plastered across the front of his engineer duds.
Wait, you could see his face in the beginning of the first game when your riding that ship. You could quickly turn the camera around and see his face before he puts on his helmet.
Also at the end. Which I think there was a flash of in the trailer.

WHAT!? NO PC VERSION! okay, I breathe, no, I won't, first just cause 2 only works for DX10 ( unrelated), now no pc version of dead space 2. EA, thou art bloody morons. Why is this fair? EA just hired me to shoot them in the foot.

To have a console exclusive shooter is just absurd. I always tried to avoid the console wars, but now I see what it is all about.
Upgrade from XP already!

I'm lucky enough to have a 360 hanging about which hasnt been used in over a year due to a lack of anything decent to play on it.
yeah seriosly, people need to move ON! Ever since I got Windows 7 my computer has been great (though the computer is new and my old comp was xp. but this one still runs much better.)

OT: this game looks good, might need to rent the first.

I feel sorry for anyone who missed out on the pre-order offer though, the full retail price is extortionate...

... don't lightyears measure distance?

So right now it's Gears of War 3 and Dead Space 2... 2011 looks like it's going to be another 2008 for gaming (as in Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead... a good year).

That is a great trailer.

I really fell sorry for Isaac. The guy has a serious case of PTSD. If you look at the comparison TheSovietConnection did (many thanks by the way) that shocked and naive look has gone out of his eyes and been replaced with a that of a stone cold killer.

That was an awesome trailer. And that bit at the end...translated as 'Reborn As One 614' if the Internet is to be believed. I wonder what that means.

EDIT- I just watched the trailer on the official website, and while I couldn't make out any more of what I already saw from the trailer, an option popped up allowing me to 'share my email and receive an image from The Patient.'

I put in my email, and clicked yes, and this is the image I received!

Here are the phrases I can make out:

"What about my baby?"

"Stick a needle in your eye"

"Screws go tight all around"

"Can you hear the symphony"

"A true vessel"

"I didn't do it I didn't kill them"

"I have to find them!"

"Let me go!"

I'm not sure I like Dead Space 2, yes I know, it's a bit hasty to make any judgments at this point, but still...
I liked Isaac's mute and faceless persona, it helped experience the game almost as if it was you in that suit. That helped a lot, the game plays a lot different if you imagine yourself in there, when you manage that, even an average and predictable story will not be a problem. In this state you are not scared of the unknown, you are scared because you know, it's there waiting, and you can't avoid it.

Sweet, I really liked the original Dead Space. The original is a great survival horror game with great visuals, gameplay, and atmosphere and it really is a great game to start to get into the groove of other survival horror games.

I bought the DS1 as a start for getting into other games in the genre and it really was a really fun game. I'm definitely putting Dead Space 2 on my buy list for now.

(sigh) I am shocked! What are the odds that he'd have short, cropped brown hair combined with a ruggedly handsome, but not beautiful, face. Really guys? How about a slighty balding hero with a rakishly one-time broken nose? Or, why not chin length ash-blonde hair pulled back into a queue, set off with a upper lip scar that creates the illusion of a perpetual sneer? I realize that character development is decided by a focus group, but eventually someone has to break the trend.

Well, there is always Kane from Kane and Lynch. Pretty much what you describe.

That trailers got me looking forward to Dead Space 2 now I have to say; liked the first one quite a bit so nice to see that this is shaping up rather well. Also as people have you said.. you can see his face at both the start and end of the first game. Though it seems they should be saying that they gave him a voice, if part of the speech in the video is partly his. Also the new helmet is sweet.
Actually, a gameinformer article about dead space 2 said that Isaac will speak more often, and he'll be giving orders to other survivors instead of taking orders all the time. He's considered a "veteran" since he survived the necromorphs, so he gets a position of respect.
I get the feeling that that will ruin the horror, though.
